So I’m back in another Cupra, boring I know!

Got this back in October when my previous one got stolen.

This time I went for the ST (estate) which now only come as a 4wd, this popped up at good price with the added bonus of a pan roof.

The car has a few subtle mods.

Eibach Springs with ST 11mm rear spacers (alignment set to factory spec)
Maxton Front Splitter
JB4 with BT
MST intake
Decat DP and GPF delete (going on next week)

Millers Oil

VCDS updates

Soundaktor off
Increased Traction (sends power to the rear sooner)
Stop/start disabled

Not the most exciting of things but I like the fact it has loads of space, your average Joe wouldn’t look twice at it and it can hit 60 in under 4 seconds.

During lockdown I have been look at replacements (M140i and fk8 type r) but for now it’s staying

That is a bit of a sleeper !

Not really a massive fan of Cupra hatches, but as an estate, yes I can definitely feel a bit of love for it.

Just looking at getting a map on my otherwise stock M140i to give the same sort of 0-60 figure (if I can get traction of course).

Big fan of the m140 and surprising how well they hook up with the right tyres.

It’s a bit a trial and error, I run the JB4 VAG group on FB and there are plenty of de-catted cars. I am aware of one car with a GPF delete without any issues. The passive delete option looks after any fault codes.

I’m also full prepared the car may have issues and will require mapping.

Time will tell

Looks really smart that! My leased Cupra ST went back early in January (good move in hindsight given the current situation)

I echo your thoughts in that it was a bit boring but did everything so well that it glossed over its foibles and lack of personality. In lease silver was a real sleeper too, especially as an estate. I had a manual but am tempted to buy one to keep in the next 18 months once i get bored of the Focus ecoboost i bought as an interim. Would get a DSG in future. How do you find the 4wd as i wasnt that impressed with fwd on Sportcontact 6s. The diff hauled it out of most situations but was hopeless unless dry. And wheel hop was made me look like a tit when trying to nip out lf a junction, is that eliminated on yours?

Not knowing much about cupras when did they change from fwd to 4wd? Is the difference bewtween the 290 and 300 just a map?

Very nice estate OP have you managed to get it on a dyno yet?

I found that wheel hop wasn’t to bad in the hatch but I had an updated dog bone mount which is a must on the FWD, the 4wd is great you can literally hammer it in all conditions.

I think it was from 2017 they switched the estate to AWD.

My hatch was on the Dyno all the time and made 373bhp with an inter cooler.

I’ve had this on the dyno once where it made 349bhp but the map needing tweaking on the JB4 as IAT’s were a bit high. At a guess now the map is setup better it will be around 355-360bhp

When they went to the Cupra 300 the DSG on an estate was 4wd using Seat's 4drive platform, the manual 300ST were still front wheel drive, as were all forms of the hatch to not encroach on the Golf R's territory. I did read about the dogbone mount but made no sense on a lease. Something to consider in the future.

Will be following this thread with interest

A nice car and a good alternative to a Golf R.

I looked into a JB4 for our B48 Cooper S but i just can’t get over the fact it basically fools the car into making more boost. But there’s not that many options for a proper ECU map. Most companies want to take it from 200hp to over 280hp which is too much of an increase for overall long term reliability.

Not a PH thing to say but should you not keep the catalyst and PPF and save the children?

New de-cat DP fitted which also removed the GPF.

Not a pleasant drive home as steering felt very floaty in the centre position and didn’t inspire confidence. Also sorted with a trip to Andy Turner in Leeds, steering angle sensor reset and the alignment re-done and she drives beautifully.

Onto the DP itself, quality bit of kit with v band clamps and bosses so all the original sensors are plumbed in. The JB4 will need adjusting to suit, it was running a little so the fuel bias and fuel open loop have been adjusted. The EML has come on once but the JB4 cleared this, it has stayed off after around 10 WOT pulls. Doesn’t feel as punchy to me and if the JB4 cannot handle the changes then it looks like I will be going for a custom map.

When I had my DP fitted with Revo stage 1 the car felt awful (poor power delivery etc), REVO weren't ready to do Stage 2 development yet but I twisted there arm. Was a major difference with the Stage 2 file.

Thanks, i will be honest at the moment I’m not 100% happy with it. If I can’t get it setup any better then I will go stage 2

EML has come on a few times but the JB4 clears it and no issues with the car going into limp mode. The logs look good but intake temps climb pretty quickly so will be adding an intercooler in the coming weeks.

Awesome bit of kit these - somewhat under the radar compared to a Golf R but all the more appealing for it.

My Stage 2 car never required an intercooler even on the APR Stage 2 99 Ron High Output file, logged and it was doing well.

Intercooler would of given it plenty of overheads but it was doing well with stock Intercooler.

Thanks, would have liked a Golf R but it would have meant getting something a little older.
