Evening all,

I've been thinking of doing one of these threads for a while for never got around to it. I've had my R26 4 years now and still love it. Bought it at 59k currently on 83k its completely standard.

I can't really think of anything to replace it with so its staying put for a while longer. Plans for this year are new front discs and pads, new front tyres and I think I'll be putting a new exhaust on it as well.

There don't seem to be many on here even though they are well liked. Any questions ask away.

Looks very nice and tidy!

Considering one of these soon, they look to be pretty good value and tick a lot of boxes. What sort of things have come up with regards to maintenance and issues over your ownership?

They are pretty reliable to be honest. The only things I have had done have been wear and tear items. Tyres last about 10k on the front, I'm running Toyo proxes at the moment but think I'll be putting PS4's on next. The main thing is the cam belt I wouldn't get one that couldn't evidence it having being done.

Now they are all over 10 years old some will be requiring a suspension refresh but parts aren't that expensive and there is good specialist support for them.

Funnily enough I’ve taken a deposit on my weekend car today and I’m looking at one of these or an ed30 golf next for a daily/ light track use. So more details and experiences please!

I'm biased but I'd definitely go for one of these over the Golf. The golf will be better put together I imagine but these are so engaging to drive. I've never been on track in it so can't comment on that but the handling is amazing.

The thing that these have that the golf won't is soul/personality. They are pretty easy to mod as well if that's your thing. A stage 1 map will take it to around 270bhp. Torque is the limiting factor I believe with 300lb ft being the max a standard engine can take before forging is required. Mods aren't really my thing but I'm sure someone with more knowledge on this will be along at some point. Megane sport.net has a wealth of knowledge.

Had one back in the day, same colour as yours.

Such an underrated car. Came from a clio trophy, the R26 is a far, far better car. Was my daily, fun, track, everything car. Never missed a beat.

Only sold it to get an r.
