I bought this from my mother in law middle of march but due to the obvious I couldn't get up to the midlands to pick it up, so got it trailered down last week.
One of the last registered I understand, 2006, 31k miles.
FIL passed away 6 months after he bought it for MIL as a birthday present. As a result she is very emotionally attached to it, used it sparingly, kept in a dark garage under a double duvet!
It is completely standard, with every single receipt, plastic wrappers on the sill, unopened tool kit, unopened toyota first aid kit, original dealer sales promotional printout. It essentially as new.
Only trouble is the original registration plate, rather unfortunate. FIL thought it was hilarious, MIL didn't have a clue what it meant and he never told her either. Her face went white when it was explained to her a few years back
Anyway, I asked her a few years back to give me first refusal on it so here it is.
I put a personal plate on it since. MIL is happy it is still in the family. I am sure it will remain with us for as long as possible. Never thought a car could have such sentimental value but when my wife and I get in it we think of Keith, his wicked sense of humour.
Anyway, some pics.

Well, doesn't seem anyone is too bothered!

biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Anyway, private plate is now on so I don't have to worry about that. No issues to report, but although the paint is very dog knob red, sometimes it appears that front of the car could do with a gentle t cut, possibly I am imagining it.

I will also attempt to do my own servicing on it, trolley jack, axle stands, oil tray etc, can anyone recommend any other basic service tools I should need. I have various socket sets etc. This is the first house I have had with off-road parking so i will have plenty of space and time.

And of course YouTube, owners forum are invaluable.

Cheers

I've always been tempted by one of these, but the lack of luggage space ruins it as a couple's weekend getaway car. Not sure if I could convince the other half on a soft-top we couldn't go away in...

Looks like you've got yourself a good-un there though! Hopefully you got some use out of it before summer ended last weekend! rofl

Love mine - an 02 so doesn't have the 6 speed box sadly. Either way it never fails to put a smile on my face. Enjoy!

I have always quite liked these, I am not 100% on the headlights, but as a toy I reckon they are a good bet.

I also think red is the best colour on these.

I had a Misano red (or dogs cock if you like) 52 plate Audi TT Roadster, so like this sort of thing.

Children removed my ability to run a 2 seater, so I got rid of that and now have a 39 year old Mercedes 500 SEL. We can all get in it , which helped justify it to my wife :-)

Pretty much the exact opposite to your car :-)

Anyways, ever since I have had the MR I always felt it was too jiggly, so took it to the Wheel Alignment Centre in Southampton. Highly recommended on here, and 30 minutes later it feels like a brand new car.
Like a lot of Japanese cars the headlights can become faded or misty.
1 tube of Colgate and a damp cloth and they came up like new. Very impressed.
Err...that is that!

I miss mine 😔

My only complaint was when cruising around 80mph the steering would get a little light. If on a long journey I would always stick a bag of luggage in the front which would fix the issue 👍🏻

Might be teaching Granny to suck eggs, but, after the Colgate treatment, worth applying a coat of the proper clear lacquer - the paste removes the old manky stuff, & the plastic underneath can revert to yellow again without it.

Same colour as the one I had smile

My favourite thing about it was the combination of driving position, throttle response, and gear change. Just about the easiest car I've ever had to execute perfect manual downshifts in.

I've owned one of these since last summer and like it very much indeed. They're definitely the a great choice if you like cars with accurate steering, tidy handling, great reliability, good economy (around 30mpg even when driven hard) and a huge fun factor.

They also have easily enough stowage behind the seats for two people's luggage for a weekend with a bit extra under the bonnet.

Very nice car...I am not a fan of Japanese cars really ( Italian or Swedish TBH) but I have become quite interested in these recently.

My only reservation would be luggage space....I could not get my golf stuff in one....( I have had a classic Lotus Elan years ago, and that was tricky !)

Yes probably, perhaps it was just the way my minds works. A little juvenile possibly.

Looks good, I've got one and they're brilliant fun, turn in is amazing.

They're pretty reliable and certainly less prone to rust than an MX5 but have you had a look at the subframe and cleaned out the drain holes? They're the only two places that they seem to suffer and if you apply a bit of preventative maintenance before they start to rust it should be pretty bulletproof.

Cheers, I’ll have a look shortly!
