991.1 Carrera S...my new daily.
Discussion
Evening,
Just last week I swapped my BMW M4 CP Cab for a 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S (991.1 3.8 PDK).
The M4 was great, did what it was supposed to do (be a very fast comfy car) very well - but it never really excited me. It’s performance was great, but too easily accessible and lacking in engagement.
I have been looking at various options for a while, considering 911’s, V8Vs and R8’s. I didn’t really have a budget set but told myself any car I bought had to be Naturally aspirated and also suited for daily duties...
I tested a V8V and whilst lovely it felt a bit long in the tooth and very small. I never got round to testing the R8 as as soon as I drove the 991 I knew I had to get one...
Fantastic engine, sounded fab, small but practical, very well built and I happen to have always wanted one...
Here she is - 2013 991.1 Carrera S 3.8 PDK. Spec is great and the bodywork is absolutely immaculate.

As I said she’ll be my daily and so far she’s great at trundling around our country lanes - but also intoxicating on the way back at 7500rpm in 2nd...
My experience with 911’s is relatively small, however like many others have always looked over the Carreras and looked straight up to the turbos and GT products. However, I am absolutely staggered at the level of performance this Carrera S delivers - I can only Imagine how crazy a GT3 feels at 9000rpm...
Sure the facelift 991.2 with the 3.0T is quicker and probably better suited to my use - but I feel the NA engine is breathing life back into my driving after a few years of turbo. Nothing beats chasing the redline with a revvy motor...
I can’t wait to put some miles on the clock and get on some dry roads!
A small note for any of you out there looking to splash 50-60k on a modern turbo car (M4/C63/RSx/M2C) please go and try one of these. Decent examples can be had from a main dealer (with 2yrs warranty) for £60k and the driving experience is off the scale in comparison - it should also hold its value better too.
Cheers...

Absolutely stunning.
I have my eye on these a replacement for my long term C63 507 Coupe.
I know I'm going to miss the power, noise and grunt of the C63 but I think the C2S will be a more all round satisfying package.
How do you find the interior and infotainment? Small details I know, but I tend to find these things age a car more than most things.
Cheers

I wouldn’t dismiss the noise and power of the C2S. No doubt they deliver power and sound completely different - but when driven hard I reckon the porker would be there or thereabouts in most scenarios. The engine also sounds pretty awesome from 4-7.5k...I have my eye on these a replacement for my long term C63 507 Coupe.

Interior wise the layout is identical to even the 991.2 that ceased in 18/19 before the arrival of the 992. It feels good and not dated - although the actual Nav/music interface does feel a little old now.
Although I have a short commute and just stick the radio on, so it’s not really an issue.
There are 3rd party CarPlay installations available (£500-1000), im tempted but I’ll see how I get on.
I have a couple lined up to view this weekend (both PDK with sports exhaust), so I'll see how I get on. Don't get me wrong, I know they'll sound epic too, I just know you'll have to work for it a bit more.
Different car I know, but an old buddy of mine had a Cayman GTS with a sports exhaust and I must admit, it did sound good, but the reality of it was that it wasn't actually going that quickly. All noise and not alot of action. Appreciate the 911 and its 3.8 is a lot more meaty though.
Anyway, keep us posted, I'll be really interested to see how it all goes.

The problem is that you don’t rarely get to drive a car properly on a test drive! The car needs revs and you’ll need some decent open roads to really enjoy it - make sure you get a proper drive. I had 45mins cross country...You’re right though, you do have to work for it - but it’s definitely there if you do. There are a couple short straights on my private test track and the 911 easily matches the speed I hit with the M4 before hitting the anchors.

I think it is, I was told it was px’d for a Macca which I see you have. Yes red belts - Rybrook....
Hopefully you aren’t going to tell me it’s a lemon and you’ve tracked it hard for 20,000miles!!
Not at all, its a good one. I did my usual trick of buying a car, spending a fortune, getting bored and chopping it in. The previous owner kept it garaged and was part of a fleet so I'd say it's been well looked after.Hopefully you aren’t going to tell me it’s a lemon and you’ve tracked it hard for 20,000miles!!
If you've any use for an unused paint chip kit, a cover to protect the passenger seat back and the original steering wheel (I wanted paddles), drop me a pm.

Good to hear, yes - it’s very good condition and only averaged a few K per year. I’ll drop you a pm...If you've any use for an unused paint chip kit, a cover to protect the passenger seat back and the original steering wheel (I wanted paddles), drop me a pm.
It’s in good hands now anyway, it certainly won’t be tucked away in a garage! It will be used well, but looked after too!
