I've owned this for about 2 months now and I absoutely love it. I've had a lot of cars and the only one that came close to this much fun was my original Impreza Turbo 2000. We always read that if you want "cheapish" fun then get an MX5 or a renaultsport.... I think I'll be keeping this one for a long time as it is in fantastic condition. My plans are to enjoy it as it is on sunny weekends.

Pretty much original apart from a KTEC sports exhaust, KTEC cone filter, lower springs and a remap taking it to 188bhp (with dyno print out).

You can't own a renaultsport cup without taking it to a track day... right?

Love these little cars..

Never owned one but managed to drive one on a couple of occasions.

Handling is great and for less than 200bhp I was surprised at how well it pulled.

Yours looks really good and in the best colour too OP. Nice one.

I loved mine too, definitely a car I shouldn’t have sold. Spent too much on it but in the scheme of things it was buttons. Would love another. Enjoy it, nice to see it being used as intended. My first experience of the Cup was with Andy Morgan (evo photographer) hammering a brand new one around Donington, 4 up. Fun.

Feels like I’ve been singing the praises of these wee cars for an eternity now since having my own one back in about 2004 I think it woulda been.

In terms of cars that are usable for track use straight out the box I stand by the fact you don’t get much better bang for your buck than a 1*2 clio.

Their popularity at tracks up and down the country speaks volumes. Such a capable wee car.

As a long term 172 Cup owner, I can confirm these cars really are fantastic!!
Really special things and last of it’s kind! No ABS / traction control, thinner glass etc
Get one while you can!

Nice purchase OP. They have a way of growing on you big time.

It's a good plan to keep hold, prices only going one way now.

So true, I had one as my first company car and did 90k miles in it over 4 years, the most fun car I have ever owned.

Fast enough to be fun with great handling (and at the time on par with a 330) but slow enough to be able to use mostly all of the first 3 gears and not get in too much trouble.

Modern hot hatches are no way near as much fun unfortunately. Although maybe a fiesta ST is similar, never been in one.

This is on my list to buy as a second car! How much did you pay for it if you don't mind saying?

Another long term owner here, mines also a 2nd car & I actually prefer it to the original Impreza Turbo I owned for 4 years back in the day!

Fantastic little cars, plan on keeping mine forever.

I think I must be a year into my 182 ownership and it really is one of the best decisions I made.

I bought it as a track car but spend more time than I expected driving it on a day to day basis.

It is slowly getting stripped etc (cage probably going in around october/november) so i am sure it will spend less and less time on the road but i love it so much i find myself wondering if i can justify having 2! One for the track and one for the road. Would be very tempted to get a nice 172 cup or potentially a trophy and just hold on to it.

I saw a great cammed trophy with upgraded brembo brake set up on the KTEC Instagram yesterday and got me thinking what a perfect set up that would be for a daily.

And if you look after it what a cheap option in the lo g run too! (Ignoring chocolate gearboxes that is)

These are great cars.

It's one of the few cars I genuinely wish I still had.

Lovely looking thing. Have you got more pics?

I have had two 172 Cups and love them. Great bang-for-your-buck and very rewarding at sensible speeds. Have never taken mine on track. Looks like you were at Llandow - ideal circuit for the little Clio.

What do you make of the ktec cone filter?

What's LLandow like in car, I've only done it on bikes and it's pretty tight.

Looks lovely mate.

My 182 FF is sat on the drive feeling sorry for itself after being rear ended 6 weeks ago. I'm at a crossroads where I want something more modern and comfortable but I know it won't be anywhere near the fun as my Clio, so I just may end up getting another 182!

They are fantastic cars. Still love the look of the blue paint and silver Turini alloys.

Every time I see one I check the plate to see if it's my old one (LV52 FVO).

That car hasn't be taxed or insured since 2011...

Always had a soft spot for these. My first car was a 2002 Clio 1.2 and the salesman had a Cup with a plate one letter different.
