Hi,

first post on this site from a long time reader from Germany here. I never had a car that i thought would be worth posting. Also there is a language barrier and i have to force myself to write in a foreign language. Well i hope it gets better with time smile

Anyways here is the story. About 20 years ago my first car was a Opel / Vauxhall Kadett E which i absolutly hated. At the time driving that piece of crap i never would have thought that i would be into cars at all. It drove from A to B and that was that. After 3 crashes i finally sold the car and went up for searching a new one. I never wanted a Golf or Polo or anthing but my father insisted that these are cheap to run and repair and having had 3 accidents it would be a smart idea to have something easy to fix. Well after some debating he came up with a Scirocco GT2 in Dragon Green which is based on a Golf MK1 for those who dont know. I was sceptical at first but a deal was done and that was my second car. I dont know how it happend but i totally fell in love with that car and i guess it also helped that my 2 best mates also liked it and also bought a Scirocco GT2/GTX. So a constant search for repair and tuning parts began. One day a Scirocco MK2 GTX 16V turned up with only 72000km and first owner. I was the first to call and one day later i collected the car. I was over the moon with it and drove it for ~25000km when someone crashed into me. The car was totaled and i never found a good one again. Life went on with boring automobiles but i never forgot that 16V car.

Here is the list of cars in between:

Opel Kadett 1.6 Tiffany Edition
Scirocco GT2 1.8
Scirocco GTX 1.8
Scirocco GTX 16V
VW Vento 1.9 TDI Beach Edition
Polo 6N2 1.4 TDI
Scirocco GTX 16V
Scirocco G60 Conversion (still own this)
Seat Ibiza 6l Cupra
Mercedes Benz W204 220CDI AMG
Seat Ibiza 6J Bocanegra FR 2.0 TDI
Mercedes Benz A Klasse W176 200CDI
VW Caddy 1.9D
Skoda Fabia 3 - 1.4 TSI
Ford Fiesta ST 180
Audi S1
Ford Fiesta ST150
Seat Ibiza 6L 1.4
Porsche Cayman 981S (Weekend Toy, still own this)
Porsche 914 1.8
Golf 7 GTI Performance (Wifes car, still own this)
Suzuki Swift Sport MZ (Track Tool, still own this)
Seat Leon FR 1.5TSI Sondermodell Black Matt (Daily, still own this)

Well ... thats a pretty long list. And i have to admin, i maybe allready have more cars as necessary (naaaah). However i still had a search going for a Scirocco 16V on a german car trading platform and last friday i got a notification (i had some really strikt criteria for my searches. It had to be a Original 16V and Red L3A3). In germany there are 128 cars registered in the year 2020 and i dont know how many are red but i guess not many. I called the seller and we talked about the car and he sent me ~40 Pictures. Well the car was not in the best shape and had about 7 colors of red. I was disapointed again to say the least, but still thought about buying it. As i browsed the offer i found a identical advert and i thought "why does this dude list the car twice". Well i was wrong. It was a diffrent car but in the exact same spec. I admitly called the seller and it was to good to be true. First Owner and Only 75000km. The car was sitting in a garage for the last 12 years and was only started each year to keep it running. I was a so excited it did not sleep that night. In the morning i had to confess to Mrs. just that i wanted to buy another car. It sure helped she also misses the Scirocco and it also was the first car she drove after getting her license. So off we went accross germany and a deal was done.

Pictures:

Well not everything is perfect. It does have a few dings and i unfortunatly have to repaint a few small areas. Also i need a good polish and clean in general but it will be a labor of love and really satisfying.

Pics of the not so good

Well i think that is all for now. I dont have the car at home, i will pic it up in the next weeks with a trailer.

Thanks for reading a sorry for the wrong spelling/grammar.

@5harp3y
Yep, only 4500 registered at all in germany an only 128 of them are 16v ... a shame. Ten years ago it was twice as much.

Those are only tiny blemishes for a car so old. Hopefully there is no rust underneath!

I am looking forward to this story....

When the Scirroco Mk2 was new, I recall going for a test drive in a Mk2 Storm, which was amazing.
If I recall correctly, that car had the Golf GTi engine, and full leather interior, and a ZF or was it a Getrag 5 speed box?
Anyway, it was a very impressive car and the sales manager was keen to show off just how well it handled.

I have always considered that model of the Scirroco as the best design : I though that they spoiled it with the GTX 'additions' with the wheel arch trim/different alloys etc.
Those alloys on yours are the best for the car IMHO.

And, your English is very good !

I think that the front looks better with the inner fogs removed.... just a personal view of course.
There is a thread on here somewhere with a green (?) car similar to yours and it looks quite understated with just the single headlights. a bit 'cleaner'.

Wow, well done for getting your hands on a Scirocco 16v , the pinnacle of Sciroccos. Really looking forward to seeing this thread develop.

I am also a massive fan of a red two tone with black bodykit, this was one I had years ago, it was 1.6 8v originally but it became a 1.9 8v, It was very good fun!! I also had a mk2 Golf GTI 16v (the car just creeping into the picture) I ended up selling the Scirocco to someone for a very healthy amount of money because they wanted the number plate!!!

I doubt it was the same inspiration but I have very fond (and in truth somewhat hazy) memories of a Tiffany. Happy days.

Don't think I suggested OP should fit the kit, it was just a topical aside smile

Yes, depends on the price paid i guess. As far as i could see without a lift there is no body rust at all. There is some rust on the whishbones but i would change these anyway.

Haha im not so sure about the country, but the car sure is nice smile

As far as i know there never was a Storm model in Germany. I think this model was only for foreign market or maybe even a UK variant. I dont think the GTX additons spoiled it ... but everyone got a diffrent taste. For me it looks incomplete.

I do agree on the alloys smile

I do have a grill from a passat 32B in my storage to get that look, but i dont think i will use it on this car. I dont think i will change anything at all, exept for some modern shocks and bushes.

Well unfortunatly i only know the car "tiffany". I still had some good fun inside "tiffany". silly

Not for me. I will never understand why to put wide rear tires on a FWD car.

If you google "scirocco rieger gto" you will find plenty. Be prepared for some serious 90s atrocities.

Today was the day i finaly picked up the scirocco. For those who have seen my other thread about my Suzuki Swift Sport, this car is the reason i could not pick up the Scirocco earlier. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

So today i drove 800km and 10 hours with my trailer to get it home.

During Pickup:
