Insert witty Skoda joke here. It's a Skoda Octavia vRS!
Discussion
Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you the moment that you have all been waiting for!
Here is my (new to me) 2006 Skoda Octavia vRS. This is the Mk2 version, pre-face lift which has the 2.0 TFSi engine.
I have been looking for another car for some time now, barely being able to decide what to go for. I flitted from a Mk1 Octavia vRS, Saab 9-3ss Aero, Subaru Legacy Turbo, Audi B6 A4 1.8T, Audi B6 A4 1.8T Quattro and Focus ST225, to name a few. In the end, my budget determined that I had enough money to buy a Mk2 Octavia vRS, so that is what I did!
Purchased last night, it is a 2 owner car (now 3), 103k miles, with some non-standard options;
Xenon head lights
Maxidot dash display
Some scrapes
Faded paintwork
There are a few things to take care of;
1) New front tyres.
2) Passenger front mirror (though not pressing now that I realised it was just the mirror glass that had come loose).
3) Fuel pump cam follower.
4) Fix cigarette lighter socket.
5) Fix interior lights.
6) Have rear wheels balanced.
7) CLEAN!
8) Refurbish wheels.
I've ordered a new mirror which will arrive this week which I can now fit at my leisure. I have investigated the cigarette lighter and interior lights and they're due to blown fuses. I have replaced the fuse for cig lighter but not for the lights, as I do not have the correct spare fuse (mini blade).
The paint is quite faded being red, so I am going to attack it with some polish at the weekend and then consider having it mopped as I don't think the polish will do the job. The interior smells a bit fusty, it has been sat around for a while which will explain this. I plan on giving the interior a good clean as well. I am going to order new tyres for it and get them fitted and get the wheels balanced at the same time. I am planning to tackle the fuel pump cam follower this Saturday, fitting new bolts and o-ring at the same time.
The car was serviced with a new battery and new brakes all round before I bought it which saves me the job.
So, here it is!

I will be keeping the M5 as well, this car is to take over daily duties, tip run car etc.

Looks tidy OP. I had a tornado red mk 5 GTI with the same engine from 36k miles to 96k miles in 2.5 years, just kept on top of servicing and usual consumables and it served me well. Had mine mopped and it responded well, brightened it up. Keep an eye on oil consumption as some use more than others, a litre every 1000 miles is at the higher end of the scale but not uncommon.
Forgot how large the VRS hatch boot is, perfect for tip runs!

Spot on. Mine drank a lot of oil but didn't have a problem from 35000 miles when I bought it to 130000 when I traded it in.I still miss it, and shortly after I sold it it's no longer taxed.
I hope its spare parts help others to live on.Unlike a poster before me, I found Mk3 similarly reliable (not amazing but pretty good), but it's a different, more refined car. That's often a good thing, but sometimes a bit of Punk makes you smile more than Classic FM.

OK, I'll take the bait!
Why did Skodas have heated rear windows? To keep your hands warm when you're pushing them.
Anyway back to the car! I've always quite liked the idea of a VRS since I had a Leon Cupra, and seeing as I know someone who works at a Skoda main agent maybe I should have one as a daily instead of another BMW.
A bit of cleaning and tidying up and that should look pretty smart.
Good luck OP.

Thanks everyone for your replies!
. There is a level of satisfaction in taking a tatty car and making it less tatty, cleaning it up etc. I'm oddly excited about doing it. I will be keeping an eye on oil, it's half the price of my M5 for 5 litres so if it uses a litre per 1000 miles then I can live with that.
The boot is huge, almost estate car sized. Will be great for tip runs / large shopping trips.

That's often a good thing, but sometimes a bit of Punk makes you smile more than Classic FM.I'll definitely keep an eye on oil. I have 10 litres arriving this week of Quantum 5w40 so I will use for one its next change and the other for top ups.

I think they're the clever (cheap
) person's choice. I expect it to come up nice once all done. A good hoover out, good wash, bit of under bonnet clean etc.
The Estelle seems to be having a bit of a resurgence in some parts - I recall seeing a few interesting conversions!
I may still sell the M5 at some point, but no plans to currently. Unless I decide that the Skoda is that good LOL.

I remember a spirited drive in a VRS with my BiL, goes surprisingly well as far as I recall !
TX.
It goes quite well considering it is standard. It picks up in 6th even from 40mph. TX.

Great cars! I had an FL Mk2 for 89,000 miles over 7 years from new.
Estate, DSG, petrol, Columbus, leather. Loved it!
Bought the Mk3 next and the Mk2 was a better built, more solid machine.
Great choice OP. Enjoy!
I like the look of the Mk3 and would happily have one. It is a huge annoyance that they only do an awd version with the diesel engine, but I guess this is to stop it stepping on the toes of the Golf R et al. Shame. I'd have liked a better stereo and full leather, but at least the radio can be changed, unlike the Saab's pre 2006.Estate, DSG, petrol, Columbus, leather. Loved it!

It's a bit tatty in places, but I didn't want mint nor did I want to pay mint money Forgot how large the VRS hatch boot is, perfect for tip runs!

Looks great! I had a silver one of the same age which I took round the Nurburgring in 2011, that was a fun road trip.
I do fancy doing the odd track day in it, but I want to make sure it is 100% before I even consider it.Shaw Tarse said:

There is a kind of growing up thing you do (or don't do) with cars.
After which you realise that Skodas are the best cars in the world.
I've had a Mk1 Octavia vRS before, but the Mk2 feels a bit more grown up. I really like Octavia's, I'd happily have a Mk3 as well. After which you realise that Skodas are the best cars in the world.

Great car. I just did a lot of work to get one of these up to standard for a mate. Never knew they were prone to so many issues!
Typical VW I imagine. I am expecting some unexpected bills during my ownership, but it's a cheap car, so I can't expect it to be the paradigm of reliability, though it would be nice

What do you call a convertible Skoda? A skip!

A great choice!

By the way my first car was a yellow 1982 Skoda Estelle...so I've heard them all!

You deserve to enjoy it in fine fettle.

Really chuffed that you're keeping the M5 after everything you've been though with it.

Really like these, good looking slightly understated cars.
Would like one myself but as with all warmish cars of that age loads of tatty stuff about.
It's a bit tatty, but I paid a bit tatty money. There are nicer ones a bit more expensive but lower spec. I really wanted the Maxidot display and Xenon lights. Also having front PDC seems to be quite rare as well.Would like one myself but as with all warmish cars of that age loads of tatty stuff about.

My 2 pence more so because im lazy.
Get it booked in to be mopped rather than waste a day on polishing.
I'll give it a once over with the Autoglym SRP, and if that doesn't do much then I may go pay my detailer mate a visit and let him loose on it.Get it booked in to be mopped rather than waste a day on polishing.
Some tasks taken care of.
Fuses replaced for the cig lighter and interior lights. Put some led's in the front interior light, need to get some for the rear.
New windscreen wipers fitted.
Next jobs are fuel pump cam lobe this weekend, clean inside and outside, order new suspension.
I need a new clip for the drivers side sun visor as well.
