Tesla Model 3 (Polestar 2 on Order)
Discussion
Hi,
Just thought I would start a readers car thread on my Tesla Model 3 Standard Range + which I currently have as a temporary company car whilst I await my Polestar 2 to arrive in February.
As a background I am currently 28 and have driven a massive variety of cars and have chosen to opt back into the company car scheme and go electric due to the massive BIK savings.
The Model 3 itself has surprised me I must admit and whilst it does have some niggles as a daily driver I don't think I would bother going back to a conventionally fuelled car at all. This year prior to having the Model 3 I had the New Shape S60 T5 for 3 months (wrote-off) and then ran around in various new shape 3 series (20i/20d) and an A4 as well as a 2020 RRS for a few weeks and to be honest apart from the RRS which was a £100k pretty much I would take the Tesla over any of them.
Even the standard Model 3 seems to have all the performance you would ever need on the road and currently I am getting around a real world 190 miles out of it with a heavy right foot and I am sure driven carefully you could get close to the claimed 250 mile range. In terms of charging I have used a supercharger twice in the last 3 months and a normal charger once near my Mums and have home charged apart from that and have experienced no issues at all.
If anyone has any questions around electric car ownership let me know (this is my first)

Thats a lovely collection of cars you've driven in a short space of time.
What was your experience of the S60 T5 like? Good, bad or just "meh"? In comparison to the BM or Audi. They seem to be great value for money. Other half has a C Class on PCP which ends in March and the S60 seems to be the wild card option. However we don't know anyone who has one of these to give a decent opinion.

I'll be interested to hear how the P2 compares to the Tesla. I'm assuming you're getting the P2 over the Tesla because it works out cheaper?
The Polestar 2 was more than a SR Model 3 but less than a LR Model 3. I went for it as I prefer the styling, interior and know it will be better built and with the driving I do I have no real need to utilise public charging. The main benefit of a Tesla is the supercharging and if you don't need that or massive range then the Polestar is a lot better car for similar money in my opinion. In terms of what annoys me on the Model 3 the seats are not amazing, the headlamps are poor, the auto wipers are s
t and I find the lack of no speedo in front of you annoying even after 2 months. The interior quality and panel gaps are not really up to scratch for £50k but to be honest its not bothered me personally and its acceptable. Its great in terms of range, performance, charging and how it drives and if you go into a modern diesel car out of it then it feels about 20 years old I find...My thoughts are the P2 will keep the benefits of the Tesla (for me) good acceleration and decent handling but have a better interior etc.
I would still take a Model 3 over a A4/3 series etc however especially given the BIK savings

If you accept it won't be a sports car in the corners then its a lovely car. I found the interior the best out of the 3 (vs A4 and 3 series) and also thought in the red with the 19s it was a great looking car. What was your experience of the S60 T5 like? Downsides were the fuel economy wasn't that great think late 20s and early 30s at a push on a run and the ride wasn't amazing however no worse than an M Sport 3 Series or S Line Audi just not as comfy as you think although mine did have the large wheels.
I actually had it on lease but it got wrote off in a bad accident which I walked away from thankfully which was a testament to the build quality of the car I suppose.
I've recently got a Model 3 Standard Range Plus to go alongside my other conventionally fuelled cars as a daily driver. For a daily I can't see myself going back to petrol or diesel. Build quality is poor though, and lots of technical niggles so far. Will update in my car thread at some stage!

Similar experience here with nearly a year in my Tesla M3LR. The tech and the way the car does so many new things is amazing, but a few things let it down a bit (auto wipers, auto headlight full beam, phone connectivity and cruise control - phantom breaking). None of them should be hard to fix, but Tesla really need to get their act together and fix them soon.Daily driving and regular use, it is another level compared to my Skoda Superb (which was only better on the 4 things mentioned above).
Have fun OP!

The auto-high beam is usless as you say, I believe the headlamps have been improved on the recent face-lift and it now has an auto-boot which is a positive improvement.

Dumb question for an about to be owner of a 3....
Can you operate the wipers manually on a stalk - is there a 'quick wipe' function somewhere on a stalk if not?
Same question on the headlights.
Thanks
No stalk for the wipers its one of the annoying features as the auto wipers are calibrated poorly so I never use them. Can you operate the wipers manually on a stalk - is there a 'quick wipe' function somewhere on a stalk if not?

Lights you can do high beam on a stalk, I have turned the auto-high beam off as it was poorly calibrated also the auto lights themselves are fine though but are not powerful. I only realised recently that you had an option for normal high beam in the screen which then changes that the stalk does and has made life easier.
The face-lift thats just come out has better headlamps I believe along with some different trim and a auto-boot closer.
One tip would be to get mudflaps fitted as mine gets filthy with a couple of days particularly the door shuts.

You can't do anything other than that with the stalk, you have to use the screen.

You can press the button on the end of the left stalk to do "one wipe" of the wipers, holding it in does the washers as well.

Yep, I found that... thanks. You can't do anything other than that with the stalk, you have to use the screen.

It works fine actually as one press also brings up the wiper 'panel' which is fine.
I am enjoying the Tesla, despite not being able to go anywhere. I can sit on the driveway going " . ".

I 100% agree here, have done nearly 10k in M3LR and as a daily it is brilliant. Like the OP, I have gone through the usual suspects of company cars with the Telsa being at the top of the list. Personally its the Tesla charge network that makes the difference
I agree the Tesla network is good however I don't do enough miles to need it so it was not a deciding factor for me.
I have had a look on the Polestar forum and the Thunder Grey looks completely different to the configurator in real life... I like it still but they need to to update it!
My car should look identical to the below when it eventually turns up
