Hi Folks,

My very first Readers car thread, so feel free to hurl loads of abuse.....

I've had heaps of cars, but these are the Jap ones.

It started with my Dad buying an AE86 when I was 16

After a couple of learner cars I bought one also, aged 19, a young me on the left

Then something very odd for a 19 year old, but I was into fishing, with two of my crazy mates

Missed the AE86 so got another

Had to scratch the MR2 itch, a very young Mrs N

Then my first quick motor, had a bleed valve , or something, 250ish Bhp

Moving on to more recent times, some family buses/fishing wagons

Then a nice modern classic I shared with my Dad, imported ourselves, 53,000kms

Onto very recent ones, Chunky, but frustrating RCF, only kept a few months

Recent addition, new fishing bus. Very fond of this one

Lastly, todays addition. Possibly my last ever new car purchase. I don't have much interest in the electric cars of the future.

Missus was maybe wanting a new Rav 4, or Lexus NX, but today she said she quite likes the Yaris, so may have to be sharing this one.

Wish I still had one of the AE86's, they really taught me how to drive.

Lovely variety of Jap metal you've had. What was it look hooning about in AE86s back in the day?

Congrats on the Yaris! Planning any mods or are you just going to drive it for a bit?

The Ae86's felt quick in their day, but wouldn't nowadays. I had one dyno'd and it made 93bhp at the wheels lol.

I remember getting out run by a Rover 216 GTi

Their technology was ahead of most other brands, certainly the first 16v engine I'd owned.

The back end spun out so easily, wet roundabouts became so much fun, but I soon attracted the attention of the local Police.

I really wanted a GT86 when they were launched, but didn't happen.

I sold the last AE86 to a chap who flew over from Ireland. Met him at Stansted airport. When he drove off he spun it all the way up the road, round the roundabout sideways lol, he really knew how to drive.

I'll keep the Yaris standard, I really don't drive fast these days hence not choosing the circuit pack. Might get the carbon dash trims from TRD.

Brilliant history, and some overlaps with the Japanese bit of my car history (AE86, FWD GT Twin Cam, S13 200SX, 350z, 370z, ISF amongst others).

What was wrong with the RCF? Just too heavy?

Thank you.

The Sunny was great, it was an import so badged a Pulsar.

Nissan dealer took in in PX not knowing it'd been fiddled with. The clutch started to slip so they had to put a new one in. Me being fussy I found some other stuff, that car cost them so much money, and I don't think I was welcome in there afterwards. It always felt like it'd go wrong at any moment, but was actually reliable for the year I had it after the dealer put everything right with it.

It was a Toyota Space cruiser.

I think the import ones were badged Hi Aces, so yes, good spot.

I used to run all my mates around in it, some funny memories.

Lol, that literally dissolved into rust eventually. My Dad taught me how to drive in that, along with a Liteace Van

Been driving gently today, but it feels very solid on the road, even without Circuit pack.

Impressive so far, and maybe the very last car of it's kind to be released.

Thank you, a nice collection you've had also.

I nearly bought a 370Z nismo recently, but held out for the Yaris.

The RCF feels heavy yes, but it was the slow reaction of the gearbox. Another owner reckons mine might have been faulty. When putting your foot down the car actually slowed down for a moment whilst the gearbox was sorting it's self out. It was very frustrating. I had a Griff 5.0 V8 that reacted with a shove as soon as you tickled the throttle.

The RCF was lovely in other ways though. Rare, very nice materials inside, dealers were great. Once on the power it was a quick car. 18 mpg though.

Lol, my trench coat days.. They were in at the time, honest.

I've no idea what Nick was doing outside with no shoes or socks on.

I reckon you'd been teaching him interrogation techniques - pulling out toe nails and stuff.

Don't worry, your secret is safe with me. smile

I forgot about the bikes

The scoot was an AN125, one of the first modern looking 125's..

To this day I still run a PCX, great way to get about.

Model F Space Cruiser. The old man had 2 Space Cruisers in the '80s, brilliant family cars and the 'moon roof' was the icing on the cake for us kids sat in the back.

Is it the same 8 speed SPDS Aisin box I had in my ISF? If so, I'd go with broken, as that box really was superb, and very fast on the change. Much preferred that to the dual clutch set up I have in my current M4 CP.

Looking forward to hearing more about the Yaris, it's got me fascinated!
