I always liked the small soft top BMWs, used to be an original shape 1 series in my street and I just thought it looked "right"
Loving the choice of wheels too, really suits the car.
Great car and as you say nice to have a car that is likely to be a dying breed of small, powerful petrol soft tops.
Only dislike is the illegal number plate

That's a very compelling package. My favourite type of car is one you'd probably walk past at a cars-n-coffee, but if you happen to stop and stare or get chatting to the owner, you start to discover all the little things that make it special. This definitely fits into that category, and I like it a lot.
Your car is looking really well (been following your progress on BabyBMW).
It’ll take a while, but these will be looked back at fondly. It too the 130i a bit of time (it was largely the forgotten hatch of its time) but people are really getting into them now with some commanding strong money.

I had one of these, an auto cab also of the same pre-lci '40 vintage. It was very quick, a nice place to be with the pro nav and HK audio, but I never gelled with it despite it being exactly the car I thought I needed. The ride was pretty poor and as a balance I just did not find the car' fun' to hustle around at all. It may well have been the auto box and maybe I should have held out my search for a manual, but it was less than a year of ownership for me before I moved it on. Strangely, the 840i GC I currently have, despite being a barge with 20" alloys, I find not only rides much nice but is actually more fun at 6-7 tenths...
Yes to be fair it was on run flats, it wasn't crashy, just felt overly firm and unforgiving of minor surface bumps. I know RFTs have a terrible reputation but I've had them on a mini and (I assume) the current 8 series and they've felt OK. Saying that, I have an old e85 Z4 also on RFTs and the ride on that is a bit jittery too. Would love to have tried the 2er on normal tyres but seemed like an expensive experiment!
