Hi folks,

It’s been a long time coming but I’m finally back in an Impreza. I was bitten by the bug 20 years ago after reading about them almost every issue in evo magazine. I joined Scoobynet and within a few weeks ended up at an SIDC track day at Knockhill where a passenger ride in a RB5 made me a fan for life.

It took me a few years but I got myself a P1 which I had for 3 years before marriage, kids and mortgages took over.

For the past 5 years I’ve been running about it a bargain 172 Cup as a fun second car, it’s been fantastic and to be honest, given availability and prices, I really did wonder whether I would get another Subaru.

We needed another estate so I started to look around and given our mileage isn’t high, I initially thought about a late blobeye wagon but as I thought, a solid and problem free one was hard to find.

Then I saw this MY99 JDM WRX, imported new in early 2000. 1 previous owner and was currently owned by a really nice chap who had it for the last 9 years. 82k on the clocks. After a lot of messages a couple of weeks ago I had a very good feeling about it and the trip to view was really just to buy.

It’s visually very original and clean inside and out. Rear arches, sills and strut tops have been professionally repaired (replaced) for corrosion.

It feels very smooth and tight to drive. An absolute joy.

It’s going in for a service and cambelt change next week and following that I’ve got a couple of door dings to pull, front bumper respray and I will also get the sills and rear spats colour coded along with the fog lamp relocation to the cluster.

Looking forward to a fun summer of family trips, camping, mountain biking and Sunday morning runs in it.
I feel very lucky to have landed it!

Looks great! Good job finding one that's had the rust treated, and credit to the former owner for getting it done.

Always loved the classics. I’ve owned 2 of which I kept my previous one for 11 years. To say I’m a fan maybe an understatement.

Looking forward to the updates!

Haha thanks ;-)

I tried not to drop any oil on the driveway then scarpered!

I’ll keep the thread updated with little bits and pieces as and when I get them done!

Good effort in convincing your mum there! I tried the same with my dad but he wasn’t having it.

That sucks that it was stolen but great memories before then clearly.

That’s the thing with these cars, every drive is an event. The sounds and feeling it gives you even when pootling about is hard to match.

Nice one. I really like the black and silver combo, both smart and slightly menacing at the same time.

I've got a Version 6 Sti SW in cashmere yellow. They are great cars and in terms of performance/practicality there is very little out there that can match them.

Thanks! Yeah it does a bit. I would love some gold Speedline ST2s for it but it’s not a priority as I like it as it is too.

Love a cashmere yellow STi. Very cool. Any pics?

Gave the car it’s first polish and really pleased with how good the paint is.

I’m no detailer, but it also got a wipe in the bay with some Meguiars engine cleaner. Came out decent, couple of things I’ll need to touch up in there but pretty good overall.

Lastly (for now), the wiper arms were pretty tired so sanded down and sprayed with mat.

Thanks! I didn’t realise it was rare but now you say it, I can’t remember seeing another. It’s really nice actually and works well.

Same username on Snet.
