thanks all, yes its totally standard. I stumbled across the colour as it was nearby, Imola Red. Its been a great car to run and own, and It still makes me giggle when i get to stretch its legs. The top end of the rev range is intoxicating, even tho its two gens old, the look on peoples faces when i take them out for it in the first time is still priceless. Im lucky enough to have a couple of other cars, so I don't daily it anymore.
Lovely looking motor matey.
I have an Alpine White one myself, feel free to check out my thread.. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
As you will see I've modified mine ever so slightly and also done some preventative maintenance to keep her sweet.
If you think its intoxicating at 8,400rpm, get it mapped and primary decatted and its an animal with an 8,600rpm redline!
Have you done the dreaded rod bearings yet?

lovely car as well! I haven't done the rb. I haveve owned it since 13k on it, and in my ownership its been properly warmed up gently before using the revs, and its still under warranty. I may choose to do them if i drop the warranty, but the warranty has helped on a few bits so not sure which route to take, and will evaluate when its up for renewal.

Thank you
Yeah you should be absolutely fine, mine were done about 75k and they were ok for the mileage and if you have warranty then that's great. I had some work done through warranty which was a life saver 6 months after I bought the car privately. Only reason I didn't extend it was because the cost and she doesn't do many miles anyway as its a weekend toy.

I think this generation of BMW was probably the greatest. Last of the naturally aspirated engines, hydraulic steering and just so much more fun than what followed.Having driving an M4, they just don't have the character of the naturally aspirated engines, although they are quick and probably quite frugal.
The S65 and S85 engines are just sublime
