Three years ago I bought this suzuki vitara as a daily/tip run car for £700 from our local first responder group.

When I bought it it had a new head gasket and a years mot.

Yesterday it passed its second mot in my ownership first time admittedly with a whole list of advisorys

In the three years I have owned it apart from a liter or two of oil and a side light bulb it has cost me nothing.

The thing will just not die

What a great purchase

Thinking about all the very expensive vehicles that cost a fortune to run due to bad design, workmanship or materials used

Crazy innit

I really fancy an old Vitara or Santana and think they are ace. Trouble is where I want to buy one in Spain they are £4k - £5k for something that in the UK would be <£1k.

Keep it going. Well done. Today's older cars are tomorrow's classics.

That said, there's a reason why the oldest cars on the road tend to be Japanese. That's testimony to how brilliant Japanese vehicle manufacturing is.

Good work keeping it going for buttons

I've always stated that after a nuclear strike the only cars on whats left of the road will be Nissan Micras (I've always called them the cockroaches of modern vehicles - ie impossible to kill)

Great
What's the potential cost of fixing the advisories before 2022 MoT time?

I have a old ignis beater.

The engine is like a sewing machine.

The older jap stuff is superb.

It is one of those cars that gets under your skin

Not what anyone would call fast but it's great fun ragging it around.

The advisors were

Rusty but not weakened front disks
Slight movement in a ball joint
All four tyres slightly perished but not dangerous (really cheap ditch finders)
Front disk stone guards corroded

In the last year it has self healed a slightly blowing exhaust and a split gator.

It rattles and squeaks and really is not comfortable, I once tried it on the motorway and 70 felt like 120 and very scary.

But it is just so practical and in low range with four wheel drive engaged you need to beach it to stop it.
