Boxster dilemma
Discussion
A T reg boxter S it belongs to mate who is stuck in Hong Kong for the foreseeable future. It's done 150,000 miles, always lived outside, never been pampered just chucked through a rotary car wash now and again. It had a ghastly bootrack on it that was regularly used to transport bags of p!aster retc.
It's dark blue with caramel interior. He has asked me to look after it and use it. So far I have had it machine polished and I have put many coats of 'ceramic ' was on it. I have fed the very dry and cracked leather, taken off the rack and generally cleaned the interior. I might treat it to an oil and filter change. Before I picked it up it had Sat outside for 12 months and was super scruffy, I replaced the wipers as they just smeared and squeaked, I might regas the ac.
Without spending loadsamoney what else should I do. I reckon IMS won't be a problem as it's an early one. When i had a 911 I had said i would rather walk than have a boxster but I am pleasantly surprised at it's ability.
I will try and load some pictures up. I am enjoying cleaning up an unloved old dog, however the crack in the drivers seat is bound to split soon

Strange attitude to the Boxster. While it's no well sorted 996, it's one of the best handling cars I've ever driven. I sold these used for over two years, was always incredibly impressed with the value for money some of the earlier cars offered. Not sure why you'd want to spend money on a car that isn't yours beyond what you may have already spent, is he reimbursing you? It's dark blue with caramel interior. I'd just use it, and look after it. Earlier cars will seem to be climbing in price and I predict will continue to do so.
I have a feeling I will end up owning it, I am enjoying the polishing a turd thing, it was so scruffy and unloved when I picked it up that it needed help. This one is pretty early so ne emergency bonnet release for overcoming the electric latch to get at the battery. You have to poke a very thin wire into one of the fuse holes then connect it to jump leads, took an hour in the rain to get it to open
...........on the previous dislike of boxsters, I was in a dealership deciding between a 996 and a boxster many years ago and remember the salesman saying "why would anyone who can afford a 911 buy a boxster"it did sort of sink in.
I will get round to putting some pictures up when I can find a teenager to help

Is this your mate? https://www.independent.co.uk/asia/east-asia/samue...I'm sure that buying a 911 rather than a Boxster is better... for the salesman's commission!
a matched set of Bridgestone potenza from mostly 2016/17. strangely they are the same size as my wifes 2011 dull diesel golf, shows how things change, I quite liked the old 60 profile comfy tyres of old.
I'm going to have a go at the drivers seat, it has soaked up about half a bottle of hide food stuff and does feel softer. A trip to youtube to suss out what to do about the cracks is in order
Help needed I have looked on pistonheads for instructions on how to upload images from an iphone

I would definitely give it that 'treat' of an oil and filter change - it's almost certainly long overdue. If you're going to use it / think you may end up owning it, then keeping the oily bits happy is a good place to start. It's probably long overdue gearbox oil, brake fluid, and coolant...

Sign up for a free account at https://imgbb.com/Enjoy the Boxster, I've recently got a Night Blue 987 and I think it's fantastic.

I think you should decide if you would like this car to be yours. If so, make an offer and take it from there. If accepted, spend what you like on it, they are lovely cars.
If you don't want it as yours or he won't sell, then don't spend a bean more than you have to. Any significant money needed to be spent should come from your mate.

Are you sure it’s an ‘S’ if it’s a T reg? Unless it’s on a private plate the ‘S’ didn’t arrive until 2000
This. There was, however, a ghastly 2.7 triptronic that had an 'S' after the 'Triptronic', often found with their owners absolutely committed to insisting it's an "S", despite having none of the engine or features of an 'S'
It has a "S" on the boot lid..........so I suppose T218 XCG.....if anyone wants to check. Re IMS I reckon if its done 150,000 + miles and is OK its probably going to be OK. Some years ago I had a 996 of similar age that I kept to 100,000 miles with no IMS drama
There is a recent video on youtube from car throttle who took an 02 boxster to the Porsche GB press garage mechanic to do an inspection, interesting what he had to say about IMS
I will set aside some time to work out the downloading images thang
