New m135i Xdrive
Discussion
Finally, after 2 and a bit months of waiting and watching it slowly progress through the build process - it's here!
Pictures to follow, only picked it up today during my lunch break.
Very happy with it for the 3.5 minutes i've driven it, back to work. Now patiently waiting for 5pm to go have a proper test!
F40 model (2021) in Storm bay - looks amazing, even in the pouring rain.
The Z4 is now definitely for sale now!

Great choice - enjoy.
I fully expected to be disappointed with mine, coming from an M140i. But save for the lack of 6 cylinders, the new one is better in every way!
I've come from the 35i N54 Z4, so as you say, the only thing missing for me is the noise, the m135 has it's own sound which is quite cool, but not as 'mechanical' or raw as the inline 6 I fully expected to be disappointed with mine, coming from an M140i. But save for the lack of 6 cylinders, the new one is better in every way!
in every other way the car is biblically better. it just does everything, without arguing, shaking your spine or scaring you s
tless in anything other than perfectly dry and straight roads
The car feels premium inside, and those front brakes look very purposeful, they're massive!! - both the callipers and the discs.
Have done an eco run over 100 miles of mainly motorway and managed to get 42mpg, so that is more than promising.
Hooning, it obviously goes down.. expect low 20s
on a track expect 15 ish lol

I really like the idea of these and I followed one the other day. The one thing that did bug me about it though...was how obvious it was to see the exhaust flap on the one exhaust but not on the other one. It got my OCD kicking in!
I'd love a go in one for sure.
Enjoy yours OP.
You're not alone - i've already emailed the salesman asking to speak to the techs if they can code it permanently open.I'd love a go in one for sure.

Enjoy yours OP.
I've been reading Bimmercode can add another setting and allow it always open, but there are grey areas regarding warranty with user code changes so would rather the dealer do it.
The other half thinks i'm crazy but i hate the look of one 'closed' - it makes it look fake!

That interior definitely looks a step up from the M140i and with the right colour, the big grille isn't too bad either, but I'm still not sold enough to trade up. Need to see if I can wangle a decent length test drive.
Enjoy!
Chris
I asked for an extended test drive - had their demo car for nearly 4 hours on test.Enjoy!

I’ve never had an issue with stuff being coded, aside from having to reapply it if the dealer applies software updates (only happened once). I wish I could code out the cold start as it’s a bit embarrassing, especially when I was leaving the house before 6am I've been reading Bimmercode can add another setting and allow it always open, but there are grey areas regarding warranty with user code changes so would rather the dealer do it.

These are really starting to grow on me. Wasn't a fan of the looks when the new 1 series was released, but having seen what VW have done to the Golf this generation somehow makes this all the more appealing. Interior looks great and I love the colour. Hell... Even the F40 designation is cool. Because you know. F40.
Might be a bit unfair as i'm comparing a 2021 model 135 against a 2014 (mk7) R and a 2016 S3 but this is easily the best all round car i've owned.
I have two complaints.
1) they need to do something with that left exhaust flap. It bugs the crap out of me when the car is parked or not under load. it just looks like a blocked off fake. Also, why can't i select to have it open on start up?
2) It has these BMW logo projectors in the wing mirrors that shine onto the ground when you unlock it. I'd like to be able to turn those off, they're not for everyone. Personally, i think they look rubbish and a bit 'fast and furious'
illuminated m135 or something on the door sills, sure, but not external, shining on the ground for all to see

I can do that on the M4. Switch the ignition on, put the throttle setting into Sport Plus, and then you touch the throttle and you can hear the exhaust flap open. Then start it up. Does yours have the option to change the throttle set up from either comfort/sport or sport plus?

Sport plus is missing. but using bimmercode it can be added. which also gives the setting 'sporty' with regard to the flap operation. Just mindful that there are rumours floating around that if you make any changes outside of the dealership these can invalidate the warranty (specifically using bimmercode)
Car has less than 300 miles on it

Others have suggested painting the flap itself matt black, which i suppose is another option.
Edit to add: I do actually have a paid version of bimmercode and the dongle from when we had the i3, so i know how to use it, and have it available... it's taking all my self control not to go out there and starting playing!
Hi OP, how have you enjoyed your first month of ownership?
I have one on order, also in Storm Bay with the pro pack. I’m 2 weeks down, only 7-10 to go…
It’s my first brand new car so not overly familiar with protocal but plan to ease it in for the first 1000 or so miles. Do these require a running in service? I knew someone who had an M4 a few years ago which had to go in at 1200 miles but I’m assuming that doesn’t apply to these?

Surely it's vacuum actuated and you can remove the vacuum line? I've been doing this on variations of BMW for years, it isn't new. My E46 had a vacuum line into the left tail pipe. The "golf tee" mod just disables the line. Currently i have
