I'm a relatively young driver, my first car was an old 1.8 Volvo S40. This was great to drive, more powerful than a 1.2 Corsa that most people get as their first car, and the driving experience was much more refined.

Since getting the car, I started a new job with a daily commute. Plus a few things went wrong, the AC fuse went and it needed a new clutch release bearing. Not terminal I know, but I wanted something more reliable for a daily commute.

I looked at a lot of cars, such as Golf GTDs, 1 series and Cooper S.

Although they would have been very nice cars to drive, the comfort and relaxed nature of the Volvo won me over. I found a really nice D4 5 pot, it's an SE model with almost all the options ticked. I think it was originally some kind of demo car or something. It has full service history, mostly Volvo, and has only covered 61000 miles.

So far I am absolutely loving it. It is so comfortable and relaxing to drive to work in, but still very fun the engine sounds really good, plus there is a lot of torque when the turbo spools up.

Lovely cars these - I've driven a remapped D4 and it was a surprisingly quick machine (when it could find traction!) Probably 210 or so. Enjoy!

They’re great cars. We have one which is an R Design Nav auto and it’s my other half’s daily driver - relatively quick, frugal and very versatile. We also found them (at the time of buying) way better specced, more refined and even better built than the equivalent 1 Series or A Class. Enjoy yours!

Nice car OP! I looked at the V40 myself, as needed a new Swedish daily, now my SAAB had gone - ended up opting for a 2013 V60 D3, just needed that little more space for my family and work the 60 gave us - Keep up the updates.
