Brave Pill - 2007 160k E92 M3
Discussion
After running my e36 325i for a good 5k this year, I have decided to pop it away and start work on the rear end, doing bushes and brakes and such-like over the winter.
I recently sold my NSX, which meant I had money burning a hole in my pocket. After buying a 67 Alfa GT 1300 with a 1600 engine and GTA seats, I started looking for a winter daily to replace the e36.
My mate had an e46 m3 for sale, he'd done all the right work to it and it had had the big mechanical jobs done. The outside was a bit tired but i thought I could tidy it up, whilst running it for a year. I went to view it and, in reality, realised an e46 m3 is very far away from a sensible winter daily. It was crusty up under the arches and it really wanted them cut out and replaced properly, a job that would take the car away from me for a reasonable amount of time and defeat the object of buying it in the first place.
However, for just £500 quid more, I found this in Norwich. With a FBMSH, clutch, bearings and actuators done and a whole host of other bills in the file, it was worth a punt. It had heated seats, too. Ideal for the winter. Right? Definitely would not have been more sensible to buy a 330i saloon or something for 3 bags. Not at all.
Anyhow, its pretty damn tidy. I'll sling some pics up in a minute.
However, it's already thrown its toys out of the pram after 3 days. SHowing constant 'battery very low' warnings and throwing the abs and asc lights, I thought it was best to buy a new battery. Turns out its just as cheap from BMW as anywhere else. This fixed the battery warnings but not the other bits. Turns out the codes stored were for the abs pump motor and plug. So, the unit is going off for a refurb (£200). I guess i cant complain, its an old, leggy car and the NSX unit is 2-3k to sort.
Oh, there was a pen rattling about in the rear passenger heater ducting that sits under the front seat. An annoying soundtrack to accompany the east anglia pheads run I went on this Sunday.. My mate came to the rescue as I had a bad back and removed the seat so we could fish about in the ducting with an engineers hook. Absolute PITA.
It has a "2 pipe mod". Sounds ace- I made a quick video. Check it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IPBWtGzk30&lc...
The whole car still feels tight as a drum. Lets see how long it takes before something else breaks. I'll report back after the abs is done.
Cheers!

Yea boieeeeee!
Firstly! Can’t believe this is an actual brave pill as featured! How cool. One of my best mates bought an actual shed of the week too (a white e39 528i from memory), it was the best and most reliable car he’s ever had…
Secondly, thanks for letting me sell the NSX and supply you the Alfa too (shameless plug) via HPC Classics. It was a total pleasure the whole way through.
I feel like it may also be my fault you have the e92, what with how good they are and how much I’m enjoying mine! :-)
Fingers crossed it’s sorted easily for you and we can soon go for a blast!
Thanks again matey and epic choices!!!

Ace.
That looks really tidy for the mileage though. Looking forward to hearing how you get on with it.
The exhaust sounds very fruity. These are very high on my list for my next car. I bottled buying one a few years ago instead buying an M140i which just didn’t do it fir me in the end. I think these are an itch that I need to scratch.

I totally get that. My friend has a mapped M135i, great car but it leaves me a bit cold. Also, no slipper as standard.. That looks really tidy for the mileage though. Looking forward to hearing how you get on with it.

Cheers for the replies, everyone.
Youve got to love a NA V8 and manual box!
Congrats on the new purchase OP, looks a lovely example.
I absolutely love my modded exhaust and primary decats gives it a really aggressive exhaust note..
You have about double the mileage of my DCT E92 and I’ve encountered some problems in just over a year of ownership, luckily had BMW UAWarranty to bail me out though.
Looking forward to seeing lots of posts about trouble free miles, fingers and toes crossed for you
