After 20 years of driving; yesterday I picked up my first new car - a white Up GTI. We spotted one at our local dealer when they called to ask if we would sell my wife’s Yeti (which we did for something else) but unfortunately that one had sold, so, upon hearing they had 2 on the boat I went for a new’un instead.

So far so good. I’ve done 100 miles in it so far and enjoyed each of them - it reminds me of my Mk1 golf gti which I should never have sold (or my 1.9AHU tdi engined one). It’s far more spacious and suited to family duties than the Cooper SD I got rid of in favour of it.

I love it’s looks and it’s great fun to drive!
Here it is:

I really like them (mrs too)

Sadly lacking interior wise on the ones we looked at though - have they improved? info etc?

It’s got the heated chequered gti tartan seats, which some people moan about as they aren’t supportive!

They are fairly basic inside even in the top spec model. That was the whole point of them though, a basic, spacious small car. I think that is the appeal to a lot of people

Aye, it’s got all the bits I’d want - Bluetooth/cabled phone access which I think is good as you don’t need a screen in the car, the reversing sensors and camera is pointless in such a small car but handy, heated seats, aircon etc.

It does seem to inexplicably lack supportive sports seats...

Just R-line ones from the Polo or something would be fine

I had a base 1.0MPI Take UP years ago and loved it, drove a TSI one a couple of years ago too and was addicted to it, they really are good to drive. So much space as well (given the size of the car)

The space thing is baffling - I had an F56 Cooper SD, and it was a PITA getting my boy in and out the back, and the boot was pathetic. They’re longer!

I'm on my 3rd Up, and my first GTI, one just like the OP's. I love mine, it's a fab little piece of kit, mine is my daily driver, it's so fun to drive that it has taken over my "fun" car duties aswell and that has been parked in the garage for the last few weeks (E39 M5).

Cheeky pic

The concept (small dimensions, great packaging, usable power and good build quality) is spot-on.

I bought a Citigo Monte-Carlo for my son to learn to drive, and it’s a hoot, even with 60bhp.

The GTi is true to the concept of the original Golf - I suspect it will remain in demand as time goes by.

My old High UP 75hp has just been written off weeping They gave us a 60hp citigo as a hire replacement. Its just as good as my old car but with a nicer stereo. And doesnt feel like it has 15hp less.

We are seriously considering a GTI to replace our current Fiesta Vignale.

There’s a bit of VAG gamesmanship going on!
The Monte Carlo wasn’t offered with the 75bhp engine, whereas the Seat FR was; it matters not really - they’re all great little cars.

I read somewhere that any difference is felt higher up the rev range. However I find it difficult to doubt any gamesmanship is afoot.

Apologies for the slight hijack OP.

That looks great, out of interest, do they have ISOFIX in the front passenger seat? Like the twingo sport etc

I'm picking mine up on Saturday, same colour but mine is pre-reg so already had reversing beeps / cruise plus climate.

Never had a new car (or pre-reg) and can't wait!

The difference between the 60 and 75 bhp is over 5000rpm the throttle doesn't open fully on the 60. Nothing a remap doesn't sort. I think all the Skoda 'performance' versions came as 60 for some reason.

My Citigo Sport was 60, but was rolling road tuned to 88, usual caveats apply, but it's an absolute hoot to drive and will happily take the family away for the weekend too.

Mine has been fettled to the point my wife doesn't like it, loud exhaust, eibach pro Street coil-overs etc etc. Not my work, but I love it.

Awesome! I think I would have liked climate control in hindsight and perhaps the beats stereo although the standard one is fine, but I’m impatient and this one was on its way 😂
