You’d think at 42 I’d feel like a bit of a tit around with an ironing board on the boot but I still love the bloody thing.

Was a huge fan of WRC in the 90s and just can’t seem to get scoobys out of the blood. This is my 4th now I’ve had it nearly 5 years. I still genuinely get excited when I see another one on the road and flash headlights/wave like a maniac. Will I ever grow out of this?

It’s perfect for me as a weekend car. Nothing special by today’s standards performance wise, but more than quick enough for me, grips well in most weather, the iconic WRC blue/gold still makes me smile and my 5 year giggles like a…well, like a 5 year old…when I take him out in it.

Edit: covered 44k miles and is completely standard bar the high level roof spoiler fitted by the previous owner. Did consider getting it removed but it’s grown on me over the years!

Good on you I say. I love the look of these. Wife doesn’t so much but I’d like one for a weekend car.

I’ve recently sold a couple of cars to buy a weekend toy for around £15k. I looked at various cars over the past few months inc. M3 E46, S1 Elise, Jag XKR & 987 Cayman. But eventually I decided to go for a late Impreza blobeye (Dec ‘05) wide track with the Prodrive Performance Pack. It’s in the same WR blue with gold alloys.

It’s very attention grabbing (for the good and also bad) but have smiled on a couple occasions as other scoobie (and Evo) drivers flash/hand up on drive buys.

The OH is yet to be convinced and think that we’re too old for this bad boy image (48 & 50 years old respectively) but I just find the car incredibly fun and entertaining to drive. Even if the mpg is terrible I really don’t care. Very few cars give you this sense of entertainment. I’m looking forward to getting to know the car better over the coming months.

For anyone that’s interested I do several YT videos, just sesrch for “Fast and Fun” and you’ll be sure to find me with my various cars including the new STI.

I've been at a couple of car events of late, almost every Subaru was adorned with stickers, carbon, huge wings and other questionable mods and therefore a nice, standard example is actually a lovely thing and that's no different. I think they're at the stage where they've been barried to death and now no bastardised ones are become quite rare and sought after - see also Saxo VTS, Astra VXR, Focus ST and many others that were once a bit cooncil but aren't anymore. I like it, a lot... I'd gladly take something similar as a weekend thing and I'm also 40 and about as average as it gets!

I also have a very long love affair with Impreza’s, only my last classic for 11 years and I’d love another one!

Does this one have any mods?

Who cares what others think. If it puts a smile on your face then enjoy it. They look so good in standard form. Enjoy.

I'm 50 and love mine even though it's got some faults that I'm working on. Cracking cars and so full of drama unlike modern performance cars that can be so proficient that they are quite unengaging and dull!

Would love to add a classic one day. Ideally a Type R but they are getting silly money now!

No mods, just the Prodrive Performance Pack.

Stunning car! Exactly what I’m looking for but I hardly see any standard good condition cars come up for sale, where’s the best place to look?

I sold my WRX wagon last year to upgrade to a STI but that plan went out the window when COVID happened, I’m still on the look out

Love it! Had a classic back in the noughties for 8 years. It got me into scoobies and into track days. At the time a blob STI with PPP was my ultimate dream car, would have one in a heartbeat if not for other cars/commitments.

But at 46 there is still plenty of time hopefully smile

I've always had a soft spot for a blue/gold one but not with all the stickers on. Bloke at work years ago had a lovely one, then he had a livery applied and it looked rubbish, him and his missus used to wear Subaru jackets to work, Subaru lanyard etc.

For me, it had to be WR blue with gold alloys. That’s the iconic Subaru colour. I too don’t like the Subaru livery (stickers) all over the car though. Makes it look “tacky” in my eyes, but appreciate we’re all different.

Car looks great and best spec with the PPP. Plenty on road performance and noise to stay exciting.

Subaru really missed a tick not making a newer version, GR Yaris shows there would have been plenty takers for a modern version.

Sadly most of the classics are completely rotten now as they suffered terribly with rust.

My car was a Prodrive RB5 but suffered an engine failure and ended up being rebuilt with a forged engine and many mods resulting in 374bhp, it also had improved brakes, suspension etc but I kept the interior/exterior completely standard apart from Miltek exhaust. I did also have it converted to run a front mount intercooler but had it painted black to make it more discrete.

I always wanted a Type R as well!

Well I’ve only had my blobeye STI for c.1 month but boy do they like to drink super unleaded? Struggling to get much more than 200 miles to a tank and returning between 19-20mpg. Comparing the STI to my RS Meg who’s 2.0 turbo is returning over 30mpg!

Who cares when the car goes this well though! LoL
