'95 Volvo 850 T5-R
Discussion
Another one of my bucket list cars ticked off, sadly I had to sell the lovely 130i to fund it, But I made a good amount on that and its gone to a very good home.
So, onto the Volvo, I spotted it on eBay, it was in the colour I wanted, with the interior I wanted, and a good mileage, stacks of history, Japanese import and a good price. One trip to Norwich later and its back in the garage.

Initial impressions - The ride seems very 'sporty' There is something very wrong with the front end when you turn right at anything other than round town speeds (not exposed on the test drive) The stereo is superb for a car of that vintage.
The only thing that doesn't work is the cruise control, the absence of an OBD port makes diagnosis a bit tricky so will have to do it the old fashioned way.
Cause of the sporty ride - Fairly new Bilsteins all round, nice.

Onto the front end, when turning right at a bit of speed, when you put some power on theres a big shuddering vibration from the front end, only on right handers and only with power on, Im hoping its the engine mounts, three of the ones I checked were in various states of collapse, the right hand on in the video by far the worst.

So, plans. Make it drive right, first and foremost, bottom out the cruise control. Then a not inconsiderable about of paint correction. Its very good in general, just needs a bit of fettling to bring it up to my standard

Had the standard T5 in my 20’s. Used to use it every winter to get me and the missus to the Alps ski-ing.
I would set the cruise control on the French side to 120mph and do the trip door to door in 10hrs.
Fantastic times.
It all changed one year when I got nicked 3 times on the way there and twice on the way back. I realised the World was changing…….

Great looking car, I had a standard T5 Estate and loved it.

No OBD2 but there is a port in the engine bay you put a fly lead into one of the various ports and press a button. It blinks error codes to you. I doubt it will help with your CC issue but who knows.Edited by indigochim on Tuesday 5th October 20:42

Lovely car swampy! These keep pinging up on my radar (being of a certain age!) so will be interested to see how you get on. Enjoy and please report back with your ownership experiences.
Thanks
Ill be updating as I go, just waiting for engine mounts to arrive and some work will commence, at some point loltonyvid said:
Maybe your shuddering is a driveshaft about to fail? I had this on my 9-5 when lifting off and it was horrendous and came on very quickly as it was fine one day and almost undrivable the next.
You mean the shaft or the CV joints? Its a very specific act that causes the vibration, in a straight line or left its fineGassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
