Bought A 997……unseen…..from BCA!
Discussion
So it’s confession time……….despite the stories littering the internet……I bought this 911 sight unseen through BCA auctions! :gunfire:
Did as much research as I could on an auction lot with some blurry photos and small write up, MOT history checked, HPi check and off we go! First time round it went provisional and dealer (Jardine Motors) refused to let it go. It then popped up ‘Buy It Now’ but before I could get to Enfield it had disappeared - a quick call and it was confirmed dealer had pulled it from Buy It Now and it was going back though on Tues this week.
Wearing my biggest cahoonas I logged on with a ‘supportive’ friend at our local breakfast spot, ordered up their finest cooked breakfast and waited….and waited…..damn the ‘public’ WiFi wasn’t strong enough to allow the live auction to run! Swallowed a big breakfast like it was a jelly and raced home, just in time! It was up……..some tactical bidding and I got to my max. Time to stop…..no said my mate go again, another £100, bidding against me, go again he says m, another £100………hammer down and it’s mine!
I have just bought a 911 sight unseen, the biggest gamble of my life! Arranged delivery which was set for next Thursday, then begins a week of rollercoaster emotions, buyers regret etc. Until last night when transport company calls and says they have a cancelled slot and can deliver today!
And so today, 11.50hrs and the transporter arrives outside the house - initial impressions are good, drover explains BCA had to jump it to load it so it’s rolled off the back and he pops his jump pack on and it fires into life! Wow! It’s my 911!
Hands me a fairly weighty envelope of docs, two keys and bids me fair well. Stood in the road with my 911 and a HUGE grin on my face - can’t believe this is happening.
Drove it home and pop the CTEK on on it, initial impressions are good, matching tyres with 6mm all round, wheels in good order, bodywork lovely, hood/windows work, things are looking good.
Then I get home and open up the document envelope………OH MY GOD……I have every single receipt from new, sales invoices, service invoices from OPC and Porsche Specialist including big ticket items like clutch, flywheel and RMS, coolant pipes, tandem pump, the works!
The engine sounds wonderful and I am truly blown away by how much of a gem I think I have bagged. Massive gamble I realise and still room for pitfalls but based on the history and bills I have, this is one cared for 911. The last 10 years between services the car has only covered around 2000 miles between MOT’s so think it has been someone’s garage queen most probably. Part exchanged for a younger model and too old for dealer to retail - let’s hope the luck continues…….
First time is saw it!

BCA Auctioneer tickled me ‘roof up roof down’

Here’s the history! (Excuse non-tiled splashbacks, work in progress)

So feel free to watch my journey unfold…..heading towards 40 next year and a trip to Le Mans 24h is booked hence the purchase - Menoporsche they call it apparently!

Thanks all - indeed ToasterPilot you are very correct and something I had to come to terms with after bidding!
It seems it could have been the luckiest decision of my life to date, the bills are impressive. All the major things have been seen too, have receipts for brake rebuild where there were stripped and repainted, new decals etc. original Porsche wind deflector is in the frunk, the headunit has been changed to a Pioneer one which I wasn’t keen on in the pictures turns out the original PCM unit is also in the frunk in the Pioneer box!
Can’t wait to get stuck into a deep clean, I have a slight rattle from O/S rear exhaust box, nothing major, apply a slight bit of pressure to tailpipe and it goes away so just needs some adjustment.
Battery currently on charge and off to BP now to get a can of Ultimate so I can drive and fill it up - living in countryside I am not sure how much range the light gives you! Lol!
What a mental end to the week!

Nice, when you see a thread title like this you imagine every alloy kerbed and every panel dented. Looks very straight.
One wonders why the OPC didn't sell it into the Porsche indy network, however? Presumably they have connections for over age cars?
Or is just wrong season for stocking convertibles so the trade gave it a swerve?
