Just got Klaus home! Just completed a 160 mile journey for a grands worth of fun! Runs beautiful, unique interior, old man owned with only 90k. Stacks of service history and so smooth, so nice and I'm over the moon.

Will get more pics tommorow and cosmetically needs a few jobs but it's alot of car for the money and all electrics work!

Cheers

It is very clean, even in the light. I'm going to say 10% chance of borkage! Debatably a future classic in this original condition so I will be sorting all the little jobs.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like Designo Purple leather.

Always had a soft spot for these.

Needs period-correct alloys though. Guessing it's an Aventgarde by the grey dials and blue window tints? Wasn't a fan of the Aventgarde seven-spokes but the optional AMG five-spokes look the business.

Sounds like value to me, can't see any rust from a distance in the dark which makes it better than most. That interior looks good!

I couldn't agree more & I will be on the hunt for some, it is the Avantgarde so has plenty of period toys and the most complex and beautiful cup holder I have ever seen.

In my eyes with used car prices going crazy, it seems like a no brainer and if it dies I will make my money back easily on the parts.

There are a couple of 2p sized bubbling which I will be sorting out myself nut on the whole its a gooden! The interior is better ergonomically and comfier than my 2013 DS5.

Must be a CLK thing. The W209 cup holder was like something out of Alien.

The wheels look like the 17" ones (7.5" wide with 225/45 tyres) that came with the CL203 C Class Sports Coupe if you ordered the EVOLUTION sports package. I've a brochure for the CL203 dated September 2000 with them listed, so if my reading of your plate as a 51 is right, then they are period-correct, but admit I have no idea whether they were ever offered on the W208 CLK.

Yes they are the ones, whilst it is technically period-correct, we very much or I very much think of this as a late 90s car and it needs the 5 spokes or some amg style monoblocks in my opinion. I don't think they were offered on the W208 but I assume it was fitted with the rather nasty 7 spoke wheels as that is the only reason I can see that they were changed.

Looks good. I’ve always thought they were a handsome car.

I bought an A209 back earlier this year after I’d returned from a while abroad and found the Aston in a rather sorry state necessitating many months and ££s of work. The Merc was cheap as chips with a decent history, recent MB main dealer service and 4 pricy Bridgestone tyres instilling some confidence. Since grown to really quite enjoy it. Will be doing 300 miles from Yorkshire to Hampshire early hours of tomorrow in her and she is a real pleasure on a long cruise.

Also, it smells of Mercedes! How is that a thing, especially on one so old?!

I have to say I have owned a mixed bag of cars in the past and this is such a lovely cruiser but it can put a smile on your face which ultimately is all I can ask of any car in its class.

I will be going to the nurburgring next year and this maybe the perfect car to enjoy the long drive in.

Ahhh the smell, the distinctive must of soft leather bound books, class and an autumnal walk in a crisp North Rhine setting........

We bought one last month (Also a 209) and it did indeed smell of Mercedes despite being 16 years old with 104k.

Kind of not a million miles away from the smell of Plasticine, smells very like my CLS did but that had more of a leathery note to it.

Funnily enough same age and mileage as mine.

So did Leeds > Southampton yesterday. Nice pleasant run at 4am and down here before work. Averaged about 33 mpg - is that about right? Mine is only the baby 200 komp.

Also, is it safe to use regular unleaded now with the new E10? Government site suggests its ok?

E10 is fine, I didn't even check and its been ok.

With regards to 33mpg, I get 32-36mpg on average sitting at 80 on cruise control.

If I am good and sit at 60-70 it says I get between 38-43mpg.

I know these are to be taken with a pinch of salt but seems accurate enough.

Not bad economy then. I perhaps should have done better given I was sat a lot at 60 - 70 due to the amount of lorries on my route but probably my heavy footed departures from service stations or on the A43 roundabout to roundabout sections. Having been used to doing the trip for 6 years in the Vantage at 18mpg I am thankful for the Merc with the current petrol prices!

Half tempted to spend a few quid having alloys refurbed and swap the stereo for this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274787234031?ssPageName...

Mine has suffered some damage to the laminate on the front and for bluetooth I am currently running a cheap adapted via a free radio frequency.

That said, conscious of the fact that I paid very little for the car and spending £600 on those 2 bits above is probably false economy. Still looks a decent car without spending a penny on it.

No its really not too bad, larger petrol engines never are too bad cruising along.
The issue I find is most of my journeys are in the 20's due to enjoying the supercharger whine.
I am after a set to refurb myself so I can hide away in the garage and enjoy some peace!
I also use a Bluetooth adapter and works really well so for me, no need to change it.
