1972 911 - NOW A ‘74 3.0 RS WITH A 3.8
Discussion
I’ve recently concluded the purchase of this:
1972 RHD 911E, chassis number 9112200299. It’s been converted to a 74 RS by Bob Watson in the late 90’s with the current spec as follows:
G50 box, 350hp 3.8l engine, 950kg, IROC look, Custom Cages FIA historic welded rollcage, Motordrive seats – Porsche logo, Heated windscreen, Polycarbonate windows, GRP roof, front wings, bonnet and engine cover, AP brake calipers front, 3.3 turbo rear (930)
930 trailing arm, Motec M48 ecu, Kaaz plate diff, 4.00 final drive (~150mph max), Mocal oil cooler, Ohlins adjustable dampers, 30mm elephant racing rear torsion bars, 22mm elephant racing front torsion bars, Adjustable anti roll bars, elephant racing rear, porsche front, Stack instruments, Momo wheel, 8” front wheel Fuchs, 9” rear wheel Fuchs, Michelin TB5 tyres
Engine spec is:
3.8l 964 engine – built by Jonny at unit eleven and mapped by wayne schofield,
Schrick cam 040, GT3 Mk1 crank, GT3 oil pump, Carrillo Con rods, 993 Mahle Forged pistons and barrels, uprated valve springs, Jenvey ITBs throttle bodies, has 340bhp at the wheels!

Ive just bought these to put in it.

I’ve just bought a new steering wheel for it, some rennline floor plates and eyeing up a wevo shifter and REPA harnesses. The plan is to carpet it in the correct style carpet, fit RS door cards and re-fit the original VDO dials with the stack dash going where the clock should be.

I’ve also collected all of these……

And it will look like this….

Hi Mike,
Wow! That’s a bit of a change from the GT3. I love it.
I bet it sounds mega.
I had a 70’s bitsa once but I couldn’t get on with the brakes. It was always, nothing nothing nothing, then lock a front wheel up.
How do you find yours with the APs? Servo assisted or good old fashioned gym workout for the right leg?
Anyway I look forward to seeing its development. I’ve a feeling it’ll keep you busier than the GT3 tinkering wise. Which is no bad thing.
I’d love something like this but I’m not sure my wife would want to travel to Italy in it.
To be fair I’m not sure I would.
Are you going track it?

Popped up to see the car at GCR last week, they are cracking on with the work, fitting the new fuel safe tank and sorting a few bits.
I also bought a set of accurate, reproduction period correct REPA harnesses to go in it, should match the seats and steering wheel nicely. (These aren’t mine, just what they will look like)
