As some of you may have seen my previous eventful thread about my old FF, thought I’d do one on its replacement!
A 2017 Mclaren 570S. Completely different type of car to the FF but really surprised in a good way with it!
Bought it unseen from Mclaren new Forrest, who were great to deal with.
To drive the car is on a different level to the FF. The steering is the best I’ve experienced on any car I’ve driven. The brake pedal positioning and feel take some getting used to but are both brilliant after some time. Space wise it’s a bit of a pain getting in and out but when you’re in it’s perfectly comfy. The front boot and shelf behind the seats are surprisingly spacious too which helps make it useable
The engine was the biggest shock for me. Going from a big V12 N/A engine to a relatively small V8 turbo I expected to be shocked by the low down torque. It’s actually an engine that loves to rev and doesn’t really get going until 4K rpm!
The only bit I don’t like is the noise. However it’s booked in to have an MSO titanium exhaust fitted in January which should hopefully sort that out!

Very nice! The orange highlights inside and out really lift it, and are a nice nod to McLaren's heritage without being as attention-grabbing as having the whole car bright orange.
The turbo setup has been described as a bit 'old style', some ppl like that character; Litchfield can fit some more modern ones - for a price.
I feel these are really good value for a car under five years old, carbon tubbed with that performance and Lotus-style handling. Vaguely harbouring hopes I might be able to attain one at some point, so very interested to hear how you enjoy it!

Any outings planned for it? The ‘Ring, Spa, the tip? Looks very nice btw
Nothing as of yet! Hopefully go on a bit of a trip with it next year. It’s just getting used to go to work and back in a couple of times a week at the min. Don’t think I’d bother taking it on track, after racing motorbikes all cars seem a bit boring on track for me! Carlos24 said:
This looks amazing and I bet the exhaust will make a real difference to the sound, I shudder to think what that’s going to cost from MSO! Is there much speed differential between the Ferrari and the McLaren? Hopefully the mclaren breaks the trend and is much more reliable for you
Cheers. Exhaust isn’t too horrendous actually, around £4200 fitted inc vat as they have them on offer at the min. Compared to the Akrapovic which is over £6500 just for the cat back system it’s pretty decent, and doesn’t affect any warranty etc. Surprisingly the Mclaren is way quicker even with 100bhp less. Obviously loads less weight but it amazes me the traction it manages to find on not even particularly wide rear tyres!

Thanks, that’s what I liked about the spec, plus with the orange in the interior it’s perfect for meThe turbo setup has been described as a bit 'old style', some ppl like that character; Litchfield can fit some more modern ones - for a price.

I like the old school ness of it! Coming from a big NA V12 which loves to rev, I’m happy to find even the little V8 in this feels similar in that regard. Makes it more fun having to work the engine rather than full torque from 1500rpm I think
I was looking for a bit at different things and honestly there’s nothing in the price range of these that can match it for spec I don’t think! Audi R8 has a great engine but the rest bores me, not a fan of 911s but they’re so overpriced you wouldn’t get anything this new in anything but the cooking variants. I think they’re a bit of a bargain!
Following this thread as I nearly bought a 650 instead of an AMG GTS Jan last year. A 570 is very tempting in a year or so.
Just read your FF thread as well, strangely enough the sales guy I dealt with last week when I traded my GTS in for a GTC roadster used to work for that place - he didn't comment too much but between the lines you could tell his real thoughts, they go through salesmen like they are disposable.

Bit of an update
Had the MSO exhaust fitted. Sounds so much better now. The noise still isn’t as good as the FF obviously but it’s a big improvement on what it was. Loud without being irritating. Don’t know how to upload a video on here to share the sound though!
I’ve done about 3k miles in it so far. Used in all weather conditions. Not been to the tip in it yet but it’s been used as a delivery vehicle a few times! Anyone who says a mclaren is impractical is lying!

I tend to drive it in the active mode where you can change the power train abs suspension modes. Usually run track powertrain and sport suspension. The latter just because the roads round our way are s
t and the extra stiffness seems to help prevent it bottoming out in places.
It’s getting some Michelin Pilot sport 4S fitted on Monday, im hoping they should improve the grip as the Pirellis on it now aren’t great!
What did impress me though was the mpg! Did a 150 mile drive just sat at 80-85 on the motorway and it got 33mpg! Although if you drive it properly that can drop to single figures!

Nipped out to get some cider before so took a little video of a cold start and some revs when it came back. To be honest it sounds better inside the car than the video does!
