After 222,000 miles my XC90, former family car, turned station car is finally giving up and will be sent off to the scrap man soon.

I have a crappy old C-max for family duties, so I set about looking for a suitable replacement station shed. Although I only did about 4k miles in the Volvo last year, I was getting bored of the 20 mpg, so fancied something cheap to run, tax and insure. With a budget of 1k, I set about scouring auto trader, ebay and that cesspit FB market place.

There was nothing, anything decent was snapped up in a nano second, leaving absolute rotters left. So in a moment of madness I doubled my budget, and this popped up 2 miles from home.

It's a 2004 E 320, 150k miles, full service history (merc main dealer up to 2018), very clean, no rust that I can find, 12 months MOT. £1800.

I think the bigger Mercs wear well for their age although they went through a period of cost cutting when they were rot boxes - the OPs car with cloth/leather looks a potentially well cared for example & should surely do many years good service. Given their size, they do like to break suspension springs.

Like that half cloth interior. How’s it for options? Good luck with it, from one 2004 W211 driver to another.

Nice. Must be one of the first with the v6 engine. My late 2003 was the inline 6.

I had a 2004 petrol 320 estate, I sold it to get an xc90 of all things!
Great car, cost me a bit in repairs though and I got shot of it to wbac rather than change the Sensotronic brake pump. I expected the 2013 xc90 to be cheaper to run - big mistake, no end of injectors, turbo pipework etc. to bring on the bills, might go back to a w212 shape merc next.

It does seem to have been well looked after. I was having a flick through service history, saw a few chunky bills in there! Including having the SCB replaced a few years ago, so hopefully I'll be ok. If I can get 2 years out of it, I'll be happy.
