CX GTI Turbo to Europe- At Last!!
Discussion
Some on here may remember my resto/mod/ project CX turbo. Well, after a driveshaft bearing stopped play last autumn we finally made it back to France and Belgium. The car was simply magnificent, hoovering up motorways, effortlessly pulling away from tedious tailgating Audis and BMs and surprisingly good at belting round Flemish lanes. The pics probably tell the story best
Very nice car I must say. I want it.
My CX history is 2400 C-matic estate (79), 2.5d saloon (80), 2.4i auto estate (83) , 2.5 TRD Estate(88) , 2.0l Famiiale (82) , S1 Turbo Saloon (85), 2.4 Pallas Salon manual 4 sp (76). Mostly RHD with a couple of LHD cars.
I would love a good turbo, they rare pretty rare.
My favorite out of all the ones I owned was the simplest, a low mileage 1982 CX2000TRE. It was a 5 speed manual saloon with a carb in silver. It had the "new" alloy block suitcase engine.
The light weight engine made it corner superbly, acceleration was good and it cruised very well and was economical. Very reliable too. Wish I had never sold it, in many ways it was the perfect car. So comfortable.

Anyway, fantastic journey, very jealous.

I built this as a useable everyday car, and it pretty much works as such. I don’t really ‘waste’ it on small local journeys, but as a A road and motorway ‘trip’ car it’s bloody brilliant . It just kinda wafts along on a wall of torque, utterly unbothered by the road surface, or cross winds…….
I’m biased, obviously but I think they’re just magnificent.

I was once stuck in a jam on Waterloo bridge so raised the suspension and walked it over the raised central reservation

C'est manifique Moniseur!
I'm a big fan of old French cars! My Grandad had a BX diesel until I was about 8 and I do remember falling asleep in it on numerous occasions. I struggled and struggle to do that in cars before or since! He kept it until the suspension decided to drop it's fluid out his bungalow one day in the early 00's...
He sold it off for an MK6 Escort also in diesel!
Talk about crimes against the car industry!
EDIT: That interior!
