Unplanned XE-S

To anyone who may be slightly interested: a recap of my more recent car history.
After getting rid of an M140i just before you-know-what in 2020, I was running around in a 2019 Leon Cupra for a while, as my mileage dropped substantially (for obvious reasons) and I fancied a change regardless. I liked the idea of having the VAG 300bhp/DSG combo after a couple of consecutive BMWs, and the Leon was £19k vs £28-£30k for the equivalent Golf R (albeit they have two extra driven wheels).
I quite liked the Leon for its’ well-sorted front diff, although you could tell it was approaching the end of its’ life, ahead of the current generation being launched. The interior was fine, but hardly cutting edge.
Then in Jan 2021, routine AT perusing commenced and an in-stock, new M135i appeared at a significant discount (remember those?!) A quick call with the sales guy and they agreed to pick my Leon up and deliver the BMW the following week.
I won’t go into detail about the M135i vs M140i comparison, other than to say, in my opinion, apart from the B58 in the old car, the new one is leagues ahead in every department. I enjoyed circa 9k miles In the M135i and still think they’re good value new in today’s market as an all-rounder.
Pretty much straight after I took delivery of the new car, all stock dried up and lead times went silly, which is why I recently agreed to sell it to Arnold Clark for a £7k profit.
With the inevitable onslaught of electric cars over the next few years, I used the unexpected sale of the BMW as an opportunity to take a different approach and buy something slightly older as an antidote.
It’s a 2017 XE-S with the updated 380hp 3.0 SC engine. Options include dark blue metallic paint (can’t remember the name), black with ivory leather, pan roof. Not sure if the reversing camera was optional or standard, too.
It’s an approved used example with 25k miles on the clock. Overall condition is excellent and it seems to have aged much better than it’s main period rival, the 340i.
First impressions are very good. The supercharger whine is present without being overbearing, the ride is very well judged between sporty and comfortable and the power delivery is extremely smooth.
The plan is to run the car for a year while it’s under full warranty, then see what the market’s doing and decide whether to stick or twist. But I’m certainly looking forward to peddling it about for the next 12 months.

From what I read it was just so JLR could improve production efficiency, as it became exactly the same unit that was In other models. Whereas before, it was the only version with the lower power output.
The other changes (new pro Nav, digital dash etc) came in 2018. I would have liked one of these, but they were only produced for a few months before particulate filters came in and they switched to the 2L engine. So they are few and far between!

Which BMW did you go for instead?
Now in the same position but either the Giulia, XE or m340.
