200k Freelander 2 - Shed would be proud
Discussion
Long time lurker and first time poster here.
Thought I’d give you all a laugh with my newly acquired shed
It’s a 2007 freelander 2 gs spec and basic down to the cloth seats
On 204k so we’ll on the way to moon mileage and it has a years MOT
Bought on the logic that we needed a cheap do it all car (E55 amg is the main steed), it needed to be at shed money to justify itself and at 200k the assumption is that the cars like triggers broom so should be fine.
Aside from needed a good clean, some trim replaced and a few rusty bits buffed and painted poundlands finest gloss black. The old girl is in pretty good Nick.
Plan is to see how far round the clock we can get her. Sort out the trim and the rusty bits (maybe go as far as to treat her to a new drivers side wing) and do some servicing etc as required to keep her going.
I’ll get more pics later this week, but I have to say it really doesn’t drive like a 200k bus and the interior being cloth has stood up really well with only the steering wheel and gear gaitor offering any clues it’s up in mileage.
First up will be a good scrub and wet vac of the interior and then turn attention to the body work. Hopefully can get her looking decent again for less than £100 or atleast that’s the plan 😂
Shedding is great fun and perversely addictive - of all the cars I've owned in the last twenty years or so, the one I miss the most is an Alfa GT diesel that had 268,000 miles on it and was close to worthless.
I'm guessing if the Freelander has done 200k, it has been decently maintained and stands a chance of lasting a good while longer

Yeah that was very much the thought, I’m not new to shedding just haven’t done it for a while. Always look for very high milers as if they check out mechanically and you can see they have been well maintained you know they will be solid enough vs lower mileage that gets an oil change on the 31st of February every year…
My caveat had always been though but a manual. I don’t rust sealed for life autos at all
At 200k and a recent belt and injector replacement she should be good to go

Bang on £1500 which is actually not bad looking at local prices north east Scotland
Got most of the trim I’m missing off of eBay for £30, rust treating materials and paint I already have.
Only thing I need now piece of plastic that blanks off the where the buttons would be on a posher version on the right side of the stereo
Should have it tidied up into something half respectable at 6ft for less than £100 I hope

That’s very reassuring seeing yours get to 200k.
We have one as the family bus, 2012 XS auto on a lowly 85k.
Not very PH but I rate them extremely highly. Absolutely no sporting pretence but does everything else very well indeed. Also surprisingly good off road and towing a horse box. Mrs Ballans works in the veterinary trade so ours regularly has to go down farm tracks and muddy fields. Even got used as a ski lift when beast of the east came through and only on semi off road tyres.
We've had ours for a long time now and keep getting tempted to swap into something newer but we haven’t found anything that covers the bases so well.
Watch out for the haldex oil pump as this is a known weak point. Supposed to be sealed for life but the oil gets gummed up causing it to fail. £500 fix. Well documented on the LR forums (Landy zone is a good one and very helpful members). Things like electric windows and central locking sometimes play up but usually sort themselves out.
Also keep an eye on the tyre pressures as this is known to cause problems with the 4WD system.
Great shedding!
