I have a horrible addiction to cars and I love to try as many as I can. I’ve always fancied trying a rotary to see what they’re like and so I find myself with an RX8.

It’s slightly scruffy but it’s got good compression and it’s from a specialist dealer local to me.

Time to find out if all the horror stories are true!

Looks nice.
You can be lucky or unlucky with these.
Great when on song on the right road.

Has it passed your Mrs exhaust sound test ?

Pretty sure when you got the mini home she said the exhaust was to loud .

Ha ha good memory! It’s got a standard exhaust so it’s nice and quite. For now.

I like that.

I can't remember the last time I saw one, they still look great too.

Still see a few around but much rarer than they used to be. OTOH I have a sense they're more driven by enthusiasts nowadays.

When you look at the price of an early GT86, it seems that even allowing for a few big bills, an RX-8 still stacks up on a total cost to enjoyment ratio.

Any plans to venture on track?

Aged really well, and something I have considered over the years. I had demo in 2004 and it broke on me so ended up with a Cooper S.

Hope the fuel bills are palatable!

It's possibly a brave choice, but I've often wondered what they are like so can understand why you bought one and they aren't exactly expensive now.

Love that interior too, but I might have looked for an earlier one to avoid the Band M Road Tax!

A garage up the road from me had one a few years ago. I was sorely tempted for the experience. I chickened out. Keep us posted!

One of those cars that is always tempting. There are lots of horror stories, but even when you factor in the cost of a rebuild they're not that expensive.
I had a look at a two near me, but the owners seemed to think that an annual MOT was the same as a service so I didn't take it any further.

Owned one of these for just over 3 years and it had a few minor issues but nothing to do with the rotary! Was a great car honestly but quite glad I got rid of it before petrol prices spiked!

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with yours, they have a terrible reputation that I'm not convinced they deserve.

I've never seen the attraction myself, but I look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Great colour combination cool

I owned one some years ago and it was a lovely car to be in. Heard plenty of horror stories about the engine (good old internet biggrin ) but experienced none. The Bose system was really good and I loved the idea of how the rear doors opened. It was quite ahead of itself with some of the features they carry. Mine had the red/black interior as well.

That is going to be fruity. My exhaust is of similar design and it will be noticeably more vocal.

These are good cars and are brilliant to drive. A proper sports car.
Sure they've got their issues, but they can be worked around.
