Octavia VRS 184 TDI
Discussion
So I bought a FN2 Type R back in Feb, and then soon came to realise that it was the most impractical car I have owned, it was'nt the easiest car to get in and out of, the seating position was too high for me, and it had the harshest ride know to man.
So I decided to swap, and having come from an Mk2 Octavia, I could'nt think of another car that I was really that interested in, so I went for another Octavia.
Its a 2015 VRS with 57000 miles on it, and full service history, its such a comfy place to sit, its nippy, doesn't handle too badly for a big motor.
The VRS button is a nice touch, giving you a couple of options to tailor the feel of the drive of the car, although I just keep it in sport mode, Had to turn off lane assist, as the first couple of times I was driving, I thought that there was a steering fault.
All in all, really happy with it.

My last one was an estate, and I do prefer them in the estate version, but could'nt find one in my budget, and most of the ones I saw were the facelift version, and I don't like the lights on the facelift.
Planning on getting it mapped at some point, but gonna wait for a few months, just in case anything goes wrong.

My neighbour had a Golf GTD with this engine and he said it was thirsty - have you found that OP?
I think he was comparing it to a previous GTD with the lesser powered version of that engine and it was 40mpg vs 50mpg before (I think he said)
went to pick a friend up from Birmingham airport from Stoke the other day, and on a steady run I got nearly 60mpg, so I wouldnt say its thirsty tbh.I think he was comparing it to a previous GTD with the lesser powered version of that engine and it was 40mpg vs 50mpg before (I think he said)

We’ve got a 2018 vRS diesel estate which has averaged 38mpg over the last 7k miles. Can just about manage 50mpg on a run as long as you don’t sit at 80mph. I think he was comparing it to a previous GTD with the lesser powered version of that engine and it was 40mpg vs 50mpg before (I think he said)
I've had our 2015 VRS 184 TDI estate since nearly new and its now on 103k. For what it is, the drive isn't bad - its certainly more fun to drive than my wife's Giulietta which has similar performance. It's not as entertaining as my MX5, but then it can do a lot of things that the MX5 can't. It's been great on longer trips to Italy several times, maxed it out on the autobahn and took it up some Alpine passes.
I don't find it thirsty in the least - I still get 50+mpg quite regularly on a motorway run at 80mph and if cruising at 70 can get 60+mpg.
Taking everything into account, it's probably the best car I've ever owned, which is why I've kept it the longest of any car. For a family car, it's great - ok performance, good for overtaking, 50+mpg, £30 tax p/a, servicing and tyres doesn't cost the earth, it's been absolutely reliable and I personally like the looks (am with you on preferring it to the facelift front end). I look around for what I could change it for and I struggle to justify a change when there's nothing wrong with the car and 'it's better the devil you know', so I will probably keep it for a few more years to come.
The only thing I miss is CarPlay now I have it in the MX5, the 18s are quite prone to punctures and now and in future the car won't be ULEZ compliant (Euro 5 diesel as its a March 2015 car), but I don't live in a city so it's not a day-to-day issue.
