Over the years i've had many pugs but the one i loved the most was nigh on identical to this.
D269FDG was the later 115bhp 1.6 and it was a belter!
I really should have kept it!
This is a 1989 1.6 model and it's listed as 103bhp. Still a nippy little thing though.D269FDG was the later 115bhp 1.6 and it was a belter!

I just have to get some cold running (conks out if I don't blip the throttle) and warm running (difficult to start when it's warm) issues out and then it'll be a lovely thing. Even the paint's original and very shiny.

They all do that sir. I had a 1.6 GTi, F765 FEA when it was around 9 years old and it was exactly the same. I absolutely hated it because of this and I tried lots of things to fix it (Spark plugs, distributor, rotor arm, HT leads etc.) but never got to the bottom of it and ended up part exchanging if for £1000 because I hated it so much.I even fiddled with the idle speed, but the issue with this is it partially stopped it stalling, but when warm the idle speed was too high.
This was pre internet forums, be interested to know what the actual problem was?

If he can sort it out I'll let you know what you should have done:

But yes poor idle is very common.
I would recommend joining the peugeot sport club and 205 gti owners forums as there are lots of very knowledgable chaps on there. I used to be on the committee for the PSC and have had some memorable events with them.

Very cool! Judging by your username and AW plate you’re not far from the Nurburgring then!
I built my house 300 yards from the Wehrseifen corner back in 2007
Thanks for the nice comments, chaps, I think once the little engine issue is sorted it should be one of the best original examples around.
