Hotrod '85 911 - 964RS Engine and Tuthill bits.
Discussion
Hello all
Just closed a deal on a solid car with a great former owner.
Coming off the back of 11 years of ownership and loads of work, the last owner decided to move it on and I was the lucky chap that picked up the phone and called him. I think this car has been through a couple of auctions without selling (I think I saw it on collecting cars) - but did not meet reserve. I called the owner and we came to a happy point in negotiations where we were both satisfied with the number. Really solid fella to deal with, sent over tonnes of information, pictures, invoices and whatnot.
My first 911 of any sort. I have been down the road of wanting to "build" a hotrod G-model car for quite some time now, bouncing between that or a 930 Turbo. Either/or. The "build" side of it was much more appealing given I wanted to create a "fast road" car. Given my current and past stable of fun stuff has been "super" in nature (720S, Huracan Perf, SLS) - I wanted something for local Devon roads in addition, as quite frankly these cars are pretty rubbish on the tight twisty stuff around here. So what I was looking to build was around 300hp, light weight, small sized, manual, and with a suspension setup for the job. Screams fast road classic 911 hotrod.
With all that being said, the "build" side of thing for what I was looking for was.. well.. £150k+. Way too much for my liking.
One night, a few days ago, I saw this car and couldn't shake it out of my head. It was exactly what I was looking to build, down to the way it looked, and was a shed-load cheaper than £150k, while being "done" by all the people I'd have had my theoretical build sorted by.
Enough talking. Some pictures!

Spec wise - the car left the factory as a 1985 Carrera Sport 3.2
Since then, a liiiiiiittle bit of fettling has occured.
As it stands in the present, it is very much NOT a Carrera Sport 3.2. The car has a 964 RS 3.6 Cup spec engine, built by Nick Fulljames - never heard of him before but did some digging before closing the deal and a very impressive resume, some Le Mans stuff, some Cosworth F1 stuff, so on so forth. Now the head of engines over at Tuthill I am told. Thing is also running race headers, and exhaust which means it sounds rather fruity. The cup cams means this thing is running approx 292bhp. Good number!
The suspension and brakes were sorted by Tuthill - with their EX-TC suspension fitted. Quite excited to give this one to try, as I've heard a tonne about it - and as far as I'm aware to fit currently they are rather pricey. Looking forward to how that translates to the car's road manners.
Other bits - Motec ECU mapping on a rolling road by Wayne Scofield, and a bespoke undertray by John Williams.
Finally, a bare metal respray into Porsche's "Blood Orange". Love the color!
All in, very pleased. Collection is on Friday! I'll let you guys know how it goes

That looks gorgeous and a lot of fun.
Enjoy.
Let us know how it is on the Devon back roads.
Will do! That is, as soon as I get reacquainted with driving a manual car... Been a few years!Enjoy.

Indeed. OP if you're on Facebook take a look at "Westcountry Porsche Drivers"- you'll be made most welcome on one of the early morning runs.
I don't have my facebook anymore, but I may reactivate it just to go do car things, because I've heard about some of the drives out from friends and they sound lovely! Thanks to everyone else who posted kind comments! More pictures and such will come when I collect it on Friday.
For now though, something I have never quite experienced before, but I found a review from a YouTuber about this exact car. Normally I'm used to watching generic reviews on the new stuff I buy. But this is a whole different kettle of fish, but thankfully - it does seem quite positive! Anticipation is building now..

Thanks everyone! I am also getting an IROC spoiler with the car, but I will keep the ducktail on for now.
I think this should fit fine in the Panamera ST - but I guess we'll find out on Friday

When I watched the video about the new Tuthill 'revs to 11k' 911 I did wonder if a better B-road car would be one with a larger capacity and more torque that you could drive in a more normal manner.
Love the orange colour too.
Many thanks! Second or third hand, I've heard they're brilliant cars but also not particularly fun to go drive long distance to a nice road, more FOR the nice road. The other problem with the 911K is that it's supposedly circa £350k or something like that. I simply can't justify that money on a classic 911 as my "primary" areas of interest with that sort of money is more in the realm of Pistas and 812GTS.Love the orange colour too.

That is stunning and a wonderful colour and spec. I am very envious and my 9yr old son will be too when I show him. Orange is his favourite colour and he also loves a 911.
I would far prefer this to any of your mentioned other owned cars.
Bookmarked
Thanks! If you and your son are ever around Devon I'd be happy to bring the car around to show him! It's this sort of thing that cemented my obsession with cars at a young age and I'd be happy to be on the other side of it now I can. I would far prefer this to any of your mentioned other owned cars.

It’s lovely . I did see that on CC’s and didn’t get to see where it got to bidding wise ?
Stunning car
I'm not sure, I didn't watch closely enough - just enough to know it didn't sell - but I know from the seller and some independent checking that the high bid on the subsequent auction was only a couple of K under what I've eventually paid for it. So I can live with that. Stunning car

Just in case, take one of these and sympathetically tie the IROC spoiler on. Will be an interesting look. I think this should fit fine in the Panamera ST - but I guess we'll find out on Friday

Car looks fantastic - the right blend of original looks and upgraded drivetrain and seats.

I'm not gonna lie, my mate George who will be helping collect the car has already texted me and gone: "I'm hoping it doesn't fit in the Panamera just so I can see that thing going down the M4 with an IROC spoiler lashed to the roof"..

So this hit the right spot hahahaha!
