So I bought this car back in 2019. Dad had a 5 cylinder coupe back in the 80's when I was still a kid, and always loved that 5 cylinder warble. Now an original quattro was out of my price range and this was the next best option. Happened upon this car by accident, saw it advertised in a local independent car sales, hated the wheels and totally discounted it!
A work colleague at the time mentioned his best friend worked at the dealer and said we should go an test drive it. That was a lunch break I'd never forget, quick test drive, deposit left and it was mine 3 days later just in time for a drive down to the festival of speed in July 2019

Little about the car, currently on 64k, was on 55k when I bought it. It's an original press car, so one of the very first ones registered in May 2011. Can imagine my horror when researching to see an identical car with one letter difference in the registration with all the side hanging off

Pretty much standard apart from a scorpion exhaust, this was developed and fitted by scorpion themselves. It's my car used on their website. Pictures credited to them!

Hope to keep this post updated along the way!

I've been slowly going down the OEM+ route with the interior.
Recently had the steering wheel returned from retrimming. Well happy with the result.

Very nice. I’m interested in how the car feels after the Bilstein are fitted.

Great coilovers; have the B14s on my 130i and find them to be superb

Problem with the 8P RS3 is there's no choice when it comes to suspension. I think the rarity has stopped any development.
The bilstein kits are not tailored for the RS and fit other cars in the platform.

Anyhow, it has to be better than this...

I know nothing about the early ones but I like you're keeping it oem+.So when did the exhaust go from twin round to the ovals we see now? Was the S available back then? ISTR a 3.2 as a rare thing with 2 round tips but that wasn't the RS..

The 8P RS3 had the twin exit left hand side. The next gen 8V went to the single oval each side.
Ive seen people convert the 8P to this set up, I'm not a fan.
Ive also seen people say they do it to make it a proper RS, but people seem to forget the original RS (RS2) had the twin on the left side.

Bloody hell; yes, absolutely!

I’m sure it’ll serve you well; it’s really well made and does very well on our crappy roads I’ve found

So last week I decided to change all the belts idlers and tensioners. Very tight in there but got it done. Engine sounds so much smoother now.

Old stuff

Next job to be tackled. Ive had new rear arms and perches for a while now, got hold of a low mileage rear subframe which is currently in getting blasted and powdercoated.

All came off pretty easily

State of the removed items....

That is a cracking effort on getting it freshened up!

Although I am a bit surprised at the amount of rust?

Seems to be a theme with cars of this age. I put it down to poor quality steel being used. A friend a few years back had his Jag fail its first MOT for rusty suspension components. Body seems to be fine apart from some very light surface corrosion in a few places. This will be tackled whilst I'm in there.

black and red rims are the correct choice, preferably with the wider fronts cool
