Hi all,

Unsure whether to start another EV thread! hehe

The iPace has become too troublesome, Jaguar had finally fixed the battery modules, but I just don't trust it anymore, or the dealerships to look after it, I reached the point where I could voluntarily terminate the lease, so it's been collected by BCA

As a daily, I really did like an EV, for the miles I do, they make more sense than a Diesel, and I do like the relaxed way they drive. I did want a Taycan or E tron GT, big can't afford either..

I've always liked the EV6/Ioniq 5, so researched both,

I do like the EV6, but always loved the way the Ioniq looked, and that's it's more of a large hatch back instead of an SUV look. Although it's deciving in size!

In the end I settled on an a Hyundai Ioniq 5, this is the 'Project 45' variant, which was the launch edition, limited to 3000 I think, it came with a heat pump and battery heater aa standard, also a solar roof which is a fun bit of tech, this should trickle charge the main battery if and when we get any sun. Also the ability to park it and drive it back out of a space using the remote, which is fun!! Although I can't see when I'm would use it.

This is in my favorite colour, Matte Gravity Gold, although I can't make out any gold. It has the 20 inch wheels which I'm not really a fan of, but they have a new set of Pilot Sport tyres on which is good.

The main thing that made me go for this is the V2L, Vehicle to Load, camping with this car will be great, as we can power everything from the car,

Also the fast charging, with the correct charger, and I've found quite a few of them, it can reach 10-80 percent in under 18 mins, enough time for a toilet brake!

Tech wise, much more in here compared to the iPace, and for me, the interior feels much better built, and a clever use of space with the flat floor. It has light leather which feels soft, also movable rear seats, feels very luxury inside, and huge amount of space

It's fast enough with AWD, and 300hp, and 600 odd NM or torque, but can decouple the front motor to help with range which could be useful on a longer run. The iPace wasn't the most efficient..

It will be interesting to see how I get on with it, I have read of a couple of issues with them, but should be sorted with this one.

I will see what to do with the 159 as well.

I would agree there, it seems to be a mix of some 80s hatches, I think the original concept was styled on the Hyundai Pony styled by giugiaro.

There is some resemblance to the delta in vague shape

That was my thinking, out of all of them, I had the iPace, that drove very well, but I do like the way this looks.

Certainly comfy/fast enough for what I need as a daily.

Congratulations! We've been slumming in a base spec 2023 AWD for over two years, and we still like the car very much.

Re: decoupling the front motor: it seems to me that there's practically no difference in the economy between the Eco and Normal modes unless you're cruising at or above 124km/h (~77.5 mph). So, retaining a normal accelerator response doesn't cost much in terms of range.

Nice, have you had any issues in the time with it?

I've found that to be honest, and Normal feels much more responsive, it seems to start in AWD from a standing start, then goes to rwd again.

It does hi very well in sport mode too.

We're at a bit under 60,000km (37,000 miles), two (or three) issues of note:
  1. The GPS antenna failed (initially intermittently), warranty fix.
  2. The colouring of the battery coolant disappeared(!). Ended up doing the 60,000km service early as a precaution
  3. A ferret ate the windshield washer conduit smile (insurance covered this one)
The #1 and #3 could happen with any car; the #2 was a head-scratcher also for the service department. The initial recommendation was to drive it until the service, but after I wanted to get this recommendation on black and white, they suggested an early service. The price of the low-conductivity coolant has gone down from the early days, so I didn't think this was a too bad in the end.

Otherwise, it has coped well in its "cross-continental airplane replacement" role - comfy, more than fast enough (including charging, like you say) and if you pay attention even tells what's going on in the corners (although I'm more than a bit envious of your Pilot Sports!).

Incidentally, it seems the Hyundai 20" wheels weigh less than the stock 19" ones, so switching to those 19" ones is not ideal if you're interested in reducing unsprung mass.

That's not too bad then, good that you've had no problems with the ICCU I've read so much about!

They certainly are very comfy, looking forward to covering more distance with this one.

I've been quite impressed with it in the corners, not as sharp as the iPace, but I find it much more comfy for cruising along.

That's very interesting regarding the 19vs 20 inch wheels as well, I always thought they were heavier.

Put a deposit on a used Ioniq 5 last week, should be with me in a few days.

Ultmate, AWD, Tech and Eco packs, Shooting Star grey, black (1/2?) leather interior. Full 5 years Hyundai warranty, which is comforting.

Not sure what the Eco pack includes other than a heat pump.

Quite excited.

Not this car but this is the colour.

Very nice! That was my other favourite colour.

I think it's the heat pump, and it pre conditions the battery of you set the sat nav to a data charger, it will get its top speed charging.

Look forward to seeing how you get on smile

I'm the same, the looks are polarizing for folk, but at least it does look different than it's competitors.

It might be that I'm just very lucky with cars. I had 13 trouble-free years with an Impreza turbo, even though (according to the Internet) the #3 cylinder will always fail immediately. This was followed by 100,000 trouble-free miles with the infamous Toyota D-CAT engine with a shorter engine block change interval than the oil service one (same source). smile

Having said that, we might have had a lower risk because most (3/4?) of our charging has been done on DC chargers (usually IONITY), where the current doesn't go through the ICCU. And the AC charging breaking the ICCU might be less common in Europe than in the US (lower current & less heat, assuming the same power).

The other ICCU failure mode (bad weld causing the coolant to leak into the ICCU) likely would have happened by now (in both our cases).

But this is just layman's speculation.

It sometimes seems some of these various issues get over blown, on the various owners forums I'm on folk only go on them to mention the problems.

Hopefully this will behave it's self!

Ah, that could be it, I'll be doing most of the charging at home, so will see what happns with it.

I do have a battery booster in the glove box just in case.

I need to find out if it's had all its updates, apparently it has.

I made a real impulse buy last November and picked up a 2023 AWD Ultimate edition.
My impressions for what it's worth...oh and first EV as well.
It's bloody quick in sport mode, a bit to quick actually as there in no sensation of speed as in a ICE car, (Z4 3.0 si as a toy before this) .
It appears to be pretty well made and has every toy that you could want and some I don't want ! .
Range wise...not a chance in this weather of achieving any where near the theoretical as advertised.
I usually drive in normal mode, I don't like the eco mode as it feels to restricted. TBH,the range is not a big deal and I know if I compromised with cabin heat and drive mode I could get substantially more, however I don't want to sit in a car freezing my arse off for a few more miles.
Faults so far...the dreaded boot rattle and a few software glitches....fixed under warranty with no quibble .
The only problems I've really had is me changing my driving habits and getting to grips with a very different driving experience.

Glad you've been getting well with yours smile

And interesting to see your experience as well.

They are indeed quick, I think yours will be running more power than the 2021 as well. This manages to have a similar 0-60 to the iPace, and that has another 95hp,

Your right there, as they're so well insulated, they don't feel like they're doing the speed they are, they certainly make great bits of kit for overtaking.

I would agree with Eco mode, as they are so responsive, it seems a shame to make it feel more sluggish, I think Ill be using normal mode most of the time

I have heard about the boot rattle with them, it must age been addressed with this one, as it feels pretty solid.

Glad the rest have been sorted though. They do take a big of getting used to, do you find the range meter accurate? The iPaces one always seemed to be unrealistic.

Regarding the range indicator, or the more comically referred to GOM (guess o meter) ...mostly it's reasonably accurate as an indicator but I always look at the SOC as a true measure. The recent cold snap has sent the GOM spiralling down though.
Have a look at the ionic guy on YouTube, he's posted some interesting info.
