2010 Mercedes E500 5.5
Discussion
A change in circumstances meant that I needed to replace my C230 Kompressor.

It's been a great car, covering about 20k miles in just over two years. However, I needed something newer that could carry the family around the UK and Europe, with bikes and luggage. The C class has sat for a short while after I found its replacement, but will be going in for an MOT and be for sale soon.
I initially started looking at W211 E500's with the 5.0 engine, and started considering E55's. Then saw an advert for a 2010 W212 E500 Avantgarde 5.5 with 54k miles and full service history.
It was pretty much perfect, understated, relatively economical on a run (30mpg at about 85mph) and above all - a V8. This was a key factor, as my wife would like an electric car to replace her Tiguan. I needed to experience owning a V8, and it would provide some balance to the household fleet.
Obligatory post purchase petrol station stop.

It's got a fairly simple specification, with the main highlights (in my mind) being intelligent lights, 17" wheels, and clear glass.

The original owner had chosen for it to be debadged, however at some point that's been reversed.

I'm loving it. It's quiet, has nearly 400bhp, is comfortable and flies completely under the radar. It's been used for a couple of big trips already, and just gets on with it without fuss.
I've had it fully serviced and checked over by an approved Mercedes specialist nearby, and the only items it needs are two rear tyres (in the next few months) and a rubber cover on a front airbag replacing.

The only modification I've made is to fit a proper boot load net. Next up will be a towbar, and carplay adaptor for the NTG4.0 headunit.

these are very much on my radar at the moment. as far as i can figure, theyre the only merc v8 which are type approved for towing (tbf, the brand new e63 is, but theyre the other end of the budget scale from where im looking), but theyre not easy to find..... Be interesting to see how you get on with it. The 212 are known for their build quality from what ive read, but maybe thats overstated....

I've run a 2010 E500 estate since 2017 and taken it from 54k to 94k. It's been pretty reliable over the eight years. Mechanically, I've had one slight oil leak at the front of the engine. a failed starter motor and a leak in one of the rear air springs. The latter tend to give up at 10+ years and Arnotts are much cheaper than they used to be. Last year I had a n/s front indicator fault which ended up with my buying a whole new sealed ILS headlamp - there was no way of getting into it. Given more time, I might have tried something s/h on eBay but my MOT was about to run out and I wasn't 100% sure about getting it coded in.I mainly use mine for longer trips (my wife has a fiat 500 for the local London stuff) and it's great for that. It's been down to Bordeaux a couple of times with four bikes on the roof (Thule bars & bike carriers) plus loads of other places in the UK and France. It's helped me move house twice, it's lugged plants, fencing material and all sorts of other junk all over the place. The air suspension and adaptive damping give it an ability to shrug off these duties with ease. And having 380+ bhp and the same amount of torque makes things feel pretty effortless. Plus they all come with the larger Sports brakes which are great.
The only thing I didn't like was the standard audio set up - my previous E500 (S211) had HK which I loved so I when I got a bonus a few years ago I took the 212 to ComandOnline and had new door speakers, tweeters and a sub installed plus an Integrated Automotive Apple/Android unit. So now the dash is up to date and things sound a lot better.
I really like it and am not sure what to replace it with. I guess I just like the V8 Merc formula. It all started with a C43 saloon in 2003 and then a C43 estate in 2007 and I then moved onto my first E500 in 2010. My wife really likes it too and every time I find a possible replacement (I had a good look at BMW 5 Series G30 earlier this year) she tries to put me off :-)
Driving that (6 year old Bimmer) made me realise mine was looking a but scuffed so in March I finally had a go with a DA polisher and made it a bit glossier - it's not perfect but a lot tidier. Next on the list is a bit of refinishing on the front seats. Mine's got Alpaca leather which a very pale grey and they could do with a bit of TLC. Anyway, here's the outside.
