Another E39 chapter… UK 2001 540i Sport - Titansilver
Discussion
Dear diary…
I think I may have a problem
Been across to Sheffield today to collect this lovely UK 2001 E39 540i Sport - it’s been superbly looked after; it also had a £3.5k ZF5 box rebuild done 18 months ago! It’s got bags of history, just needs a few little bits doing to it and then ‘my touch’…
I’ll be doing, ASAP:
Full brakes overhaul (ATE discs & pads probably), rear arms need replacing as do the front steering links (notes on the last Inspection 1 service); get a set of 17x8 Style 66s to fit all-season tyres to, for its winter set and I’ll be stripping the arches right back, deep cleaning them and then giving it all a good coating of BH Dynax UB and UC, as well as to the sills and jacking points, to future proof it, as currently there’s no corrosion to the car as it’s always been garaged
My aim is to keep this one as stock as possible and just enjoy it for what it is - firstly it needs a deep cleaning inside and out, I’ll get onto that ASAP

And of course, on the drive

Magnificent find!
Still the best looking 5er imo.
Fully agree; that’s why I had no doubt in getting back into another E39Still the best looking 5er imo.
I sold my Japanese import 540i on too soon (had a different idea back then re reducing down to one car, which didn’t work out)…
So I’ll get to enjoy this one more this time

I know it’s poor form to ask such things but… how much?
A quick google will tell you all you need to know.
It's lovely.
I previously had a 535i and a 523i - there's something really special about the E39 - unfortunately the rust is usually special too! (with the exception of examples like yours of course).

That didn't take you long Dan!
Looks lovely, health to enjoy it!
Thanks squire - It came across my path and I thought if don’t go and see that and buy it I’ll regret it. The previous owner was a gent and he’s really taken good care of it and a proper BMW enthusiast with it, always helps!Looks lovely, health to enjoy it!
Headlights polished best I can for now, new Lunex D2S 6000k bulbs fitted; wing mirrors glass removed, cleaned and refitted properly and then liberal amounts of grease sprayed into the mechs so they both open & close as they should now (powerfold mirrors)
Doors greased as they were creaking too
Hopefully I’ll crack on with the arches work tomorrow before I start to give it a full clean inside and out; that’s a dirty job so may as well get onto it ASAP
I’ll probably paint the calipers whilst I’m at it
