Sold my Yaris GRMN a few months ago now, and have been without a fun car since then.

Picked this one up yesterday biggrin

It’s my mum’s car and had been in her garage since lockdown. She’s recently been very ill and has admitted she won’t be driving again, so got this a new battery and MoT and drove it home from Shropshire yesterday.

Idea was to give it a clean and take it to WBAC, but it is far too good for that. Not sure what to do now…

One big issue - it won’t lock! Tried several processes I found on the web but still no joy. Both keys start the car but even with new batteries nothing happens on any button presses

Is there a pairing process for when you get a new key? haven’t done it since a mk1 focus but had to put a key in the ignition and do a combination of turning it on and off which put in the car into programming mode.

As your keys starts the car it means the chip isn’t fried.

I had rented one of those smarts for a few weeks when needed an auto. Was lots of fun around town and enjoyed the semi auto feature more than full auto.

Although I was going around a third of the M25 and sure it increased my blood pressure when looking in the rear view and seeing a lorry so close but in fact probably wasn’t any closer to me than when in my other car.

It was a hit to me when hearing one of my parents talking about giving up their car due to illness, all the best for you and you mum.

Thanks. There are loads of key learning / re-pairing processes on the web with slight variations. I’ve tried them all! I think I’m going to disconnect the battery and start again.

My mum had a heart attack and then a stroke, and was in hospital for about eight weeks. Back home now with carers but still a long way to go for her. It’s been tough for her, and I’m a couple of hours away which doesn’t help!

Yep. Already thinking I don’t want to sell it (for both reasons you stated)

My father in law had one of these as a run around for years. I really liked it.

Freaked me out the first time he parked it nose to the curb. I though he had lost it laugh

I've had 2, first one was hugely unreliable and scruffy, yet I still went and brought another! That was the 84bhp turbo convertible. Brought it on 160k took it up to 185k with no major issues, but then the convertible roof separated at the front. Patched it up a few times but it needed replacing, and at a cost of about £2k fitted, I ended up selling it cheap.

Ended up selling for a car with rear seats. I do have a soft spot for them, but but sure id have another. I found a lot of garages dont like working on them.

Thanks! It is a 2014 Grandstyle edition with the petrol engine

Absolutely immaculate condition and has done under 13,000 miles! Suspect it will be one of the lowest mileage smarts of its age.

I'd missed this I'm afraid - Thanks Mike

They are a very likable car. I officially became the owner of it today. It is just too good to go to WBAC, so persuaded my mum I should buy it off her. Nor sure how much I'll use it, but they are fun for short drives, and I needed something to keep my 10 year NCD active!

Not had a chance to use it today as I had to pick up my son from LHR after a couple of months down under.

Are these all auto? They are cool cars one of the few truly innovative designs from the last few years.

Sort of. 2 pedal automated manual. Well, they used to be. We had one of the first(unofficial) diesels in the U.K. back in 2000.

Yes, they all have the same gearbox. Takes some getting used to to make smooth progress and you soon learn it won’t be rushed!

I had my dads 2010 CDI after he passed it was 54hp standard, I had it mapped to about 75hp.

It was a "ICE edition by pioneer" so had some Brabus kit on it (wheels, steering wheel) I added Brabus fuel cap, gearknob and handbrake cover and also had a factory fitted Pioneer headunit and subwoofer.

Somebody wrote it off for me last year.
