Temu Range Rover - Jaecoo J7 SHS
Discussion
Well it's not exactly a Ferrari but it's my first new car in 10 years an also first car I have kind of wanted in that time. It's a second car for the school run etc and replaces a Zafira > Capture > Arona. I quite liked the Arona as it did 55mpg an was fine on the motorway an with the seats down I could get all my tough mudder gear in for weekends of obstical course racing but after 75k it was time for a change.
I have been looking at Hybrids for a while as school run is a 20 mile round trip but we also travel to see family about 160 miles away an sometimes return in the day so didn't want a full EV etc.
So the J7 seemed like a good option 1 yest drive later and the deal was done.
Picture is off auto trader as I only took 2

Mine at the gym

So that's what it looks like an honestly I think it looks quite nice sure it's not Range Rover but it has hints of it. Cherry the parent company is the importer of JLR in China so clearly that is where they got design ideas.
Things I like:
It does 50+ miles on EV only so that's my school run and gym trip taken care of
It charges overnight on a 3 pin plug
0-60 is apparently 7 an a bit seconds so it never feels an issue pulling out over overtaking
The 360 camera is excellent and gives you confidence to park in tight car parks.
The ride despite whatcar review is fine comfortable breaks work well.
In HEV mode it does regain a fair bit of battery energy. I am getting 55 to 60mpg on hybrid but I do drive slowly.
Things I don't like.
There is no gear shifter and most things are done on the main screen. It doesn't save many settings so each drive you have to select EV and maximum recovery (EV or Hybrid is a button).
Camera tells you off if your eyes leave the road....which they have to, to use the giant screen.
If you speed tells you off again you can turn it off but would have to do it every time.
To use the NAV you need to download an app.
Music plays after you stop the car unlike the audi which cuts it off when you open the door.
Things I don't mind.
There is no on / off button you get in put seat belt on an car starts on a stalk. Stop an press park an car stops.
You walk up to it an it unlocks walk away it looks many cars do this it just is a bit odd
Key fob is quite big not an issue just is a bit big.
So that's it my J7 it was £35k 0% finance and jas a 7 year warranty. Nice if plain interior and enough space for cricket bags and school bags x 2 with a violin on top

I like the look of these. How's the refinement/seat comfort/sound system?
Seats are adjustable many different ways so comfortable heated and cooled. It's Sony speakers apparently but I tend to stream music via YouTube so I can't tell you if that's good or bad but when I stream from music on my phone at 128kps sounds fine.
Just picked ours up today same colour Black, new 75 reg, most impressive new car I have been in, in a long time. I used to work at main dealers and got a new car every 3 months and this genuinely is fantastic.
We got rid of an unreliable 2018 BMW G31 520D Estate, and this is no joke. Better built, more comfortable and more refined by far.
Ignore where it originates from and go and look at one you won't be disappointed unless you're expecting a sports car for everyday usage!
Genuinely one of the best built cars I have seen in a long time, panel gaps, paint quality, Interior build the lot, its spot on and comparable to anything on the Market.
Drives absolutely fine and I have an Elise S3 in the Garage.

P.S I asked Dealer if tyre pressures had been checked as read ride quality wasnt great and they said yes been done.
Took it to Garage to check and sure enough Tyres at Over inflated delivery pressure at 43 psi!!
Put it at correct 33 PSI and its great, so much better.
I bet the press cars have the wrong pressures!

That is certainly a lot of car for the money! Don't think I could live with the dash though, does look very Temu. Seem to be a number of these big but cheap motors coming in - the Bigster being another but this one looks like it has the performance that the bigster lacks. Wouldn't change my outlander for one but a nice purchase for sure.
Glad you like it, hope it lives up to your initial thoughts
To me though it looks like a bland evoque from the side and back and that grill should be on a Mack truck
The lack of buttons and that giant screen would be a big red flag for me personally
Be interesting to see how you get on with it

It does look kind of derivative doesn't it....but for a school run kid wagon I am not sure that's an issue. To me though it looks like a bland evoque from the side and back and that grill should be on a Mack truck

The screen does take a bit of working out
Update.
So I have got into habit of plugging it in every nigjt just a 3 pin plug (cost of 7kw charger and install would be about £1200 and eat into cost saving).
Based on 28p per kW it costs about £4 to "fill up" 20% to 100% over night.
This means in the week I spend about £30 on fuel v £45 on diesel. So only a £60 saving on average per month but it would be lower if I got a different rate will a wall box an overnight rate.
Recharging when driving I note means petrol consumption is around 55 to 60mpg so similar to diesel but of course petrol is cheaper.
So while the savings aren't huge over the Arona I had the over all driving experience is much nicer. It feels like a premium product (think US hotel room rather than the Langham etc). There are some annoying quirks like android auto talking over when I would just like to use Bluetooth etc but I have discovered its easy to go to the hoke screen view.
Also if you start it without a phone connecting you are treated to an Omada start up display that's a little flashy.
Voice controls also work well though I have no need to ask it top open the sun roof.
Also discovered there is a handy storage tray under the boot floor where you can put the fast cable and things like a med kit etc
All in all 3 weeks in and it's proving to be fit for purpose

Good Lord. Get a different electricity tariff with a cheap overnight rate and you can knock that 28p down to about 7p. You don't need a special charger installed for this, you can just keep using the 3-pin.So I have got into habit of plugging it in every nigjt just a 3 pin plug (cost of 7kw charger and install would be about £1200 and eat into cost saving).

With a 7 year warranty I am keeping mine till it's done haha
Is it a genuine 7 year warranty or a MG style one which doesn't cover much/anything after 3 years and has such stringent servicing requirements they're virtually impossible to keep to?I had a Zafira with a 7 year warranty hence kept it for that long. As this is a school run / kid taxi I think it will last till they are in uni in 5 years then it will be moved on. Time will tell if it has any resale value at that point. But just a short time in it's proving to be a car that meets my needs.
