This unintentionally came my way.

2006 56 Ford Transit 2.4 RWD XLWB , currently a 17 seat bus, missing 2 seats.

Remarkable condition really, 45k demo plus 1 owner, main dealer serviced and maintained but I haven't got the history yet.

I was thinking, great , camper build but it is only about 5ft high inside. And I ain't.

What do the camper builders think ?

Does it need a D1 licence to drive?

It's probably not ideal. Sits between the likes of Transporters than can be daily driven and proper campers that you can actually stand up in.

Wonder if there's a pop top that would work for the extra headroom.

As a 17 seat bus, probably a psv licence, otherwise it's a 3.5 tonne van .
My mate suggested pop top front, bed rear, but with the space available a shower seems fitting, but probably won't fit lol.

Another suggested moto cross transport camper, maybe more suited to that but I ain't lol.

I always think that with this sort of stuff you need to picture yourself using it and how it will fit around the things that you enjoy doing. Would make a good day van, long weekends, but I wouldn't want to live in something that I couldn't stand up in for more than a week.

I'd love a van like that, long weekends away with a trailer for the bikes, but then it would also take up 3 parking spaces on the driveway hehe

My cycle speedway club back in the day used a mk1 petrol transit Swb with windows and benches down both sides, scout group had a similar converted ambulance.

This would have been ultra luxury lol, and carried less people.

Not much call for that sort of thing now, but this thing runs superbly, has never been welded and cant find a dent on it.
No major rust issues either, small bit at very bottom behind rear wheels, gutter side, needs a rub down, rust converting and paint, but below the swage line. None anywhere else.
One rear door painted, tried buffing a few bits with a very light cutting on a cloth , comes up a treat.

Condemned by main agent for rust and brake failure, a flexi pipe has split.

Got to do something with it, far too good to break or scrap.
Though someone would pay good money for the mint cabin floor mat lol, diesel normally fks them.

This came with it, also condemned.

The most unloved 60k car in the world, still got factory auxiliary belt apparently.
Had to put space saver on to move it, broken spring jammed on rim.

Probably a lively thing, with a 2.0 in it, didn't realise these little old ST,s were 2.0 lol.

Think it is special edition too, black and blue interior , blue dash.

Make a fun thing for someone though.

With all those windows it will be a pain to insulate.
I've never done a proper full camper conversion but have done a couple of day vans and condensation is your enemy on any van build.

Yep, had thought of that, going off the idea rapidly, was just something to do with my son and a very sound low miles motor.

Hate breaking or scrapping good uns.

Having said that a 2015 RS6 avant cat S is proving more valuable and easier to break than sell. There ain't much of it left.

Decided not to take on the camper project with my son. Its just to low and we are too tall.

I did though, get the brakes sorted, pipe from Abs to master had split. Took it for a 30 miles spin and it drives superbly,

Small bit of rust each side at bottom behind wheels, sills ate great as is underside.

It now has a new no advisory MOT. Class 5 as 17 seater even though only 15 fitted.

V5 arrived, it is rated at 4.1 tonnes, not 3.5 as I thought.
