2026 BMW X7 40D

I've had this for a couple of months now having previously had a Mercedes EQC followed by a Volvo XC90 T8 (petrol hybrid) - now back in a diesel which is probably the opposite trajectory I should take from a climate perspective but hey ho. I figured there probably isn't much time left to enjoy a nice torquey diesel engine before they cease to exist (and I had fond memories of my old VW Touareg V6 Diesel) so I thought why not.
Thoughts after a 1000 miles in it. It seems an X7 is quite a rare beast (probably a good thing in some peoples eyes) especially compared with the X5 and I think most folks just think it's a slightly less aggressive looking X5 at first glance; I think the black grille makes the front less offensive than the chrome option as well so chose the Msport model. I went for clear glass, Manhattan Green paint and Tartufo Merino Leather which I think is a bit of a classic combo and makes a change from the usual Blacks and Greys; the colour in particular has been commented on favorably by people seeing the car - depending on the light it changes from green to almost bronze. The kids love the rear electric sunblinds, heated seats, rear headrest pillows and light up sunroof - plus the fact that rear legroom is very limo like.
It is extremely refined and quiet on the motorway but does have a nice engine / exhaust sound (sports exhaust) particularly for a diesel when you put it in sport mode. Handling is much better than the XC90 as is the general build quality, materials and paint quality. There is no getting away from the fact that it it is a big car but it honestly doesn't feel barge like and the four wheel steering really helps as does the 360 degree cameras; that said if we are going into the city or using a multi-storey car park we just use our electric MINI instead...

What a brilliant colour combo.. as you say, it's so nice to see something different to all of the monochrome examples out there.
I can't get on with the front end, but I would likely mellow over time if I saw it on a regular basis.. per the G8x M-cars, which I detested on launch but have grown to accept over time. The rest of the styling is absolutely spot on though.
