Xc70 Round Two!
Discussion
My Previous XC70 thread didn't get many updates past the initial purchase excitement, The Enabler - 2007 Volvo XC70 D5 Although there is an Instagram with a few more updates kicking around.
I might go back and update it in detail eventually as we haven't actually sold it, and we may have a plan to allow it to stick around, but for now the tl;dr is that it was getting increasingly difficult to keep up with the deferred maintenance of a 240k+ mileage car while that also being the main car of the household.
I've just re-read the old thread and it starts out with me shopping for a car that 'wants for nothing' and ending up with a project, which seems pretty familiar to my experience over the last couple of weeks. We've just bought a 2021 F60 Countyman to replace my Wife's F56 Mini and I was getting jealous of her having a car where everything worked perfectly and didn't rattle, so I set out to buy a newer XC70 in as perfect condition as possible.
Unfortunately 'spec creep' took over and I decided that it had to be a facelift P3 with adaptive cruise. Good, low(ish) mileage ones of these are dangerously close to decent V90cc's which makes them suddenly much less attractive. We aren't in a position to buy another newish car at the moment so the budget was cut to under £10k. The sensible thing to do here would have been to buy a pre-facelift but instead I managed to find this:

A 2014 D5 with 146k on the clock, dealer history for the first 9 years and then a specialist after that. It absolutely doesn't want for nothing, from my 3.5 hour drive home with it, it needs new rear discs and pads, the electric tailgate needs sorting, the tyres are budget and it's overdue a gearbox and AWD service. I'm possibly inviting ridicule here by mentioning that I spent £7400 on this, as it seems like a ludicrous amount of money to spend on a 12 year old car with almost 150k on the clock but I was getting impatient and so here we are!
Hopefully this one doesn't start with a list so long that I can't keep up with it. I'm hoping that it will allow me to catch up on some jobs with the old one, which will either be sold in the end or will become a full time camping car.
