Just bought Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC Sport, with 141,000 miles. As I just wanted a cheap run around few years. From what I can see MOT history is absolutely clean with hardly any advisorys all around. Now the service history isn't great its got 7 service stamps and was getting regularly serviced at 10/20k intervals but then for some reason its not been serviced in over 2yrs (35k miles). I will add it drives flawlessly, in fact one of the smoothest cars I've ever driven.

So my question is Should I go get a major service (biggest one) done on it at a reputable garage seen as its not been serviced in 35k miles or at least I dont tvink it has or if it has it wasnt recorded

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Yes, that seems like a good idea.

I would be getting the underside corrosion sorted first, these cars rot like hell.

Just change oil/filter and air filter, that engine goes forever.

So that comes under the full service (medium one) so that should be enough rather than the full works one?

Must be covered in concealer on the bottom laugh

I say this because my wife has one with 89,000 miles on it. It's a '63 plate that we've had since it was almost new. It's been almost faultless over the years but got it's first MOT advisories for subframe and sill corrosion this year, so I think it'll be done for in a few years time.

I'd go for the full service personally. This will include the gearbox oil change, which IIRC is every 40k miles in these cars. Also gives you a solid starting point to know what will need doing when.

Good Choice!

My other half has a 66' plate with the same engine, its on 92,000 miles and not had a single problem but like with most diesel, they do need a good kick in the guts every now and then on a dual carriageway...

As others have said, a good engine and gearbox service should see you alright smile

Supposedly built with the dpf in mind these Honda diesels, being closer to the heat of the engine or something etc.

Quite like the idea of one in the CRV with £35 tax.

Shame they do rust still, not as bad the older ones, I just wish Honda sorted out the under sealing properly, same goes with Mazda's of this era.
