From a 340 to a T-Roc
Discussion
Not a natural choice but there is a logic to the change. After 3.5 years and 85,000 miles under my ownership in my 340i, it was time for a change over the summer.
The BMW had previously been my father's and I borrowed it after getting rid of my M140 which I just didn't get on with. A loan turned into a purchase and it proved to be a great choice. It was however reaching the age where it would need some money spending on it and my increased mileage (16,000 in six months) as a result of a job change meant that something else was needed. Add to that the fact that my oldest is due to start driving next year, less power and a lower insurance group became a deciding factor.
Ideally I would have gone for an EV but on street parking and age restrictions on my employer's salary sacrifice scheme made this doubly unviable.
Initial thoughts were a Taigo but scope creep saw me looking at the T-Roc and the ideal spec seemed to be the R-Line Plus with the 1.5 engine. Definitely miss the six cylinders from the 340 but it's reasonably sprightly and as I do most of my miles on the A1, the adaptive cruise control and high 40s fuel consumption means it's working out OK.

My wife had one of the 1.0l ones of these (on a 68 plate) for about 4 years and the only thing we replaced on it were tyres and wiper blades. It was a fantastic little car which took us on many a road trip to the top of Scotland and down to Cornwall. I can imagine a new 1.5 model would be all the daily you'd need in this day and age. I'd have another in a heartbeat to be honest.
