Well this project came about entirely by chance, a fleeting mention of an early S2 escort for sale on a whatsapp group, a need for a winter project and a deal was done! The car came from Mr Gallonspermile of this very parish who was its custodian for around 16 years. It was taken off the road a good 12 years or so ago where the shell was sorted, painted and undersealed and then has sat ever since.

After we agreed a deal the next hurdle was getting it home to me, the car was in Dover and I'm near glasgow, a nice even 1000 mile round trip. I considered using shiply but I really wanted to get a good handover from Craig, so a tow pickup and a trailer hire was sorted and we were all set. Only for the best laid plans to fall apart when the hire company for the pickup cancelled on me with only 18hrs notice and I couldn't get a replacement in time. Balls. So back to shiply we went. Craig did me a solid and slaved the engine and box back in meaning the rest of the car in bits would fit inside. A very helpful and reasonably priced chap called Jim from shiply picked the car up from Craig bang on time and had the car with me the following day.

As you can see it was tightly packed in there!

The car came with pretty much every part bar a few simple items to rebuild, including an absolutely lovely condition pair of recaros. Even a load of spare parts too such as Ecus, fuel metering units and a load of other stuff.

First impressions were really good. Car was exactly as described. The paint, whilst fresh, has been sat for a long time so does have some storage marks plus some parts were pretty orangey-peeley, but some quick test patches with 2000 grit wet and dry and a quick go with the rotary shows there's enough clear on there to bring it up nice.

For the past few weeks have been really busy so have just been steadily accumulating parts.

And a set of well overdue new boots, some ex ginetta pirelli's for the bargain price of £110 for a set of 5!

Today Ive finally found some time to start emptying the car out properly and organising some bits. All the interior stuff has been stored away for the time being whilst the mechanical bits are sorted.

Got the car up in the air on my new toy, the quickjack (why didn't i buy one sooner!). whipped the wheels off and dropped them into the refurbishers. Might seem a bit premature, but as im in a small garage I need the car mobile ish and the old tyres weren't holding air, plus it clears space having the new tyres out of the way, will hopefully have them back next week.

Gave me first chance to have a nosy underneath

Few bits of underseal to touch up, but other than that nice and solid.

Plan is to basically refresh all the consumable bits such as brakes, bearings and anything that may have perished having being sat so long. Suspension is all new and already polybushed, engine will get a refresh to standard spec and hopefully by the summer will have a very nice sorted and useable S2!

Yay, can't wait to see this back on the road. Sadly I've just not had time to do it, but I know it's gone to a good home. smile

Mine too, think it was "super-chipped" to 155bhp with a Magnex exhaust and I thought it was a rocket ship. Handles bloody awesome and was twice as good as the Fiesta RS Turbo that replaced it. Miss that 'scort.
