heres my choice of practical load mover with a bit of go :-)

Its a 1997 Jap market only caldina it has the permanent 4WD and the legendary 3S-GTE which was fitted to the Celica GT-4 wrapped in a mk 1 avensis estate body.

260 bhp on tap and loads of traction make it a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing has caught out the unsuspecting on a few occasions.

anyway hope you like it

Now that is a sleeper! Great find. I am into Jap cars, but haven't even heard of it. I've always had an inkling for a cedric! boxedin

I haven't ever heard of one of those before myself! Must be some serious potential for tuning!!!

Thanks for all the positive comments

tuning wise 300bhp is not to difficult with stage 1 mods but to be honest I am leaving this one stock.

had my fun modifying my previous car a 1990 ST185 Celica GT-4 this was a nice natural progression and gave me what I needed a load carrier with some level of performance.

thankfully the Caldina I bought is the rarer manual version as most seem to be autos.

In fact there is an auto for sale in the classifieds section of PH :-)

How weird is that, saw one of these the other day and did a double take. Unlikely to have been you as the one I saw was in Hampshire but it was identical to yours. Never seen one before, is it like an Avensis estate? Bit like the Legacy GT-B's I suppose, and I love them....

ETA - should have read 1st post properly. Lovely car though, any idea what sort of 4x4 running gear it has? I presume it shares it with something.

Think its Celica Based?

Another cool JDM car I have never heard of or seen in my life, I always wondered whether Toyota did a sporty Avensis, looks cool!

yes shares a lot of running gear/engine bits with the 1993-1999 ST205 GT-4

My local toyota can source pretty much anything needed but i would expect to pay a premium for that service

Wow, a manual Caldina is very rare. Its a very cool car, I came across the newer model GT4 a couple of times before but those are four-speed auto only. Still good for 0-60 in under 7 though!

The caldina pictured above by Ali is the ST246 model and as mentioned is only available in 4speed auto Fensport I beleive have the only one in the U.K as they imported it just before the import loopholes were closed so therefore did not require the model report.

Mine is the ST215 model and the first production year of that model 1997 so comes in on the 10 years old just needs an MOT route not requiring sva or model report.

I paid £3K for mine but the others I have seen available have been between £3750 and £4250

Scroll down to the Toyota part.
Never spent quite as long on GT2 as the original GT (I had a GF and a job by then!)

Hi there, I was looking at getting an ST215 identical to yours but the auto. How have you got on with it the last few months?

I bought one last week.
1997 GT-T with 65000km

It does not feel scary fast, the general attitude of the car seems to hide the speed quite well, and then I get shocked when I look at the speedo and realise that I am doing a little over the speed limit.

Hello Fellow GT-T owners smile this is my 00 facelift version auto/triptronic,VSC & rear lsd. from ireland , I love it to bits I've been lookin for a long time and got this grade4 in may , agreed it dials in the speed with no effort , only complaint is it needs bigger brakes and anti lag would be nice biggrin
