My '91 NA6 (MX5)
Discussion
Thanks for the kind words everyone, I know she's not to everyones tastes but I'm really happy with her. ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Very cool, but whats an NA6?
NA6CE is the chassis code for the car (MK1 1600), similar to how S-body cars are referred to as 'S13/S14' etc, or Skylines as 'R33/R34'. It's just a quick way of identifying the shape and model of the car.
Tidy! You've left your bonnet open though
I get that an awful lot.![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
Nice but completely the wrong wheels for it
The wheels are Sportmax 002s, they're 15"x8"J ET0. They're fairly common on US MX5s (Miatas), which is where they're from. My only criticism of them is the quality, 6 months in they were ready for a re-furb.
Lots of chavs people are doing this. Apparently it helps 'cool' the engine. It is a nice looking car though!
Haha
The theory behind it is the same basic principle of a 'cowl' bonnet (as you see on a lot of US cars). Though a very crude method of cooling, results recorded by others have been positive. Personally, I'm not going to pretend I fully understand the theory, and I never suffered from cooling issues before, but it hasn't been detrimental, and I quite like the look.
Thanks again, it's always nice to hear others opinions on the car!

[b]don't wide wheels/tyres kill the feel of the car?
whats the weight of the rims like compared to stock?[/b]
Actually, no they don't. They're only an inch wider than most aftermarket wheels, and I actually prefer the wider track that the low offset provides. As for weights, they're not the lightest things in the world, and are definitely heavier than the OEM Enkeis, but to compare it to something like Rotas GT3 (15x7), they're only 3lbs heavier.
I like the wheels, but the stretch isn't nice on the tyres
It's a personal preference thing, and it doesn't look as pronounced on the Toyos as it did on my old A539s, but I do see where you're coming from. I prefer the lack of sidewall flex I get as a result, but I am aware of the potential dangers.
Thanks again folks![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

I just switched from the factory 14x5.5" wheels to 15x7" Enkeis on mine - quite an improvement, despite the wheels being heavier (6.2 v 5.7kg)the wheel+tyre combo felt lighter, and the lower, stiffer profile has made things a bit more direct. Steering feel is if anything better than before.whats the weight of the rims like compared to stock?[/b]
