I bought a Hawke Formula Ford chassis and various suspension components a few years ago. It is by no means a complete car and it has been very had to identify the type/year of Hawke that it is.
It seems to be a DL12 with a DL17 rear end. On closer inspection the rear end looks to have been modified (poorly) and chopped about to give the DL17 rear end.

Here is the dilemma. Do I spend ludicrous amounts of money restoring it to a period specification Formula Ford, or do I chop the rear end off the chassis and make a hillclimb/trackday/racecar out of it using a currently unique concept that I have been working on for a while?

Formula Ford spec- about £10,000 and 115bhp.

Track slag spec- about £5000 550kg and 500bhp

Will I feel guilty about cutting up an unknown classic race car that has already been cut about badly, just so that I don't have to build the front end of a space frame for my project?

Help!

Thanks for any answers in advance.

Noted.
Once I get the engine, gearbox and rear diff it should progress quite quickly.

Build up the rear frame and rework the suspensions

The time consuming bit will be doing the drawings and making the jigs.

Anyone know any engineering shops that will do a substantial PH discount?
