My two cars are a 1968 VW Beetle 1500 which I bought 2 years ago when I was 16 for just £450 with just under 40,000 miles on the clock due to the fact that it needs some welding to the chassis. I have not yet passed my practical test but hoping to take it soon and save money up for the insurance on the 106.

The plan is to slowly improve the car whilst i'm at university with maybe an engine swap (old 911 engine) in the future and put some good suspension and brakes on, strip out the interior and have just two bucket seats. I would also like to paint the car Porsche metallic blue and get some nice wheels for it.

My runaround is a 1998 Peugeot 106 1.5 Diesel Zest 2 5dr which will be my runaround when I pass my test. I bought it for £100 a couple of monts ago from my driving instructors son.

It currently has 130,000 miles on the clock and needs a front o/s driveshaft and a spring for the gearstick which is currently broken so flops around and makes it difficult to tell what gear the car is in.

I can't wait to pass my test! smile

I'd get that drivers seat cleaned in the pug before you start driving it as it looks a bit soiled!

Otherwise, nice motors. Good luck with the Beetle, looks a nice project smile

The guy that I bought it off had bought a new car and the scrap dealer would have given him £80 for it so I said I would give him £100 and he said that was fine so I was chuffed to bits. When I went to see it I thought it was going to be a old shape peice of junk but it's in really good condition.

Never said they did. Wasn't going to do the work myself. I have a lot of mechanics in the family. wink

Just kidding with you. The Beetle looks like a nice straight original basis for a project.

911 Engines physically do not fit in a Beetle engine bay and are very heavy however the Type 4 engines used in the Porsche 914, late VW Type 2 and VW 411/412 can be converted using Porshe cooling parts and can make very decent and reliable power at an affordable price.

Lots of good stuff can such as this:

Also check out this site for Porsche engine and brake conversions etc...

Mmm 914...

thumbupThanks for the links, I'm sure I've seen full 911 engine conversions in Beetles with some modifying to the engine bays because as you pointed out they are quite large. I've also seen some Boxer engines mainly from Imprezas. Thanks for your advice. I'm sure it will come in handy in the future.
