My new 9-3

After realising that a 400 mile round trip every weekend in a 3.2 V6 just wasn't viable i have just picked up the keys to this diesel mile munching waft mobile.

Never been in one - looks very spacy (roomy), must be very comfortable on a longer journeys.

Only had it out on one long journey and i was very impressed with it to be honest it's not as spacious as the Vectra i had but it's much more relaxing and comfortable though.

Getting 48 mpg average so far which is why i bought it.

I had a 150bhp Vector Sport saloon a few years ago. I thought it drove fairly well but the interior was terrible compared the BMWs, Audis and Mercs and the steering wheel was huge!

Swore I'd never spend my own money on one but they are amazingly good value these days. They still look good too, esp the estate.

Car looks great, made me have a look at the classifieds! Hope you don't mind me asking but how old is it and how much did you pay? Am in the market for a load lugger for up and down the motorway and it looks good.

I don't mind you asking at all. I paid £6500 for a 2006 on a 55 plate with 84,000 on the clock from a independent dealer with a years warranty and two services including MOT's thrown in. It's a Vector Sport 1.9 Tid (150). I would never have bought one had we not had one as a rental car a few years back as i was never a fan of the interior, but this one has the uprated infotainment system with an inbuilt subwoofer and decent speakers and is a nice place to sit.

I think it comes down to the Saab or 320d.

I think I need to bite the bullet and get rid of my Mini and get a Diesel. My mileage is too great not to be diesel powered. Was looking at 330d's but shouldnt discount the SAAB.

Any reliability problems?

Well at the moment i would say yes but i no doubt will find out what it's like to live with over the next few months and i shall let you know. At the moment the only things that bug me are the small size clutch rest and the rear washer button being akward to use.

None yet but i only picked it up on Saturday the 13th.

Having had it a few months i'm more qualified to answer this one. So far the alternator has died and a clutch hose split leaving me stranded in the middle of a four way junction.

So not too impressed with that so far but the car itself is still a very nice way of getting about.

Yeah the alternators are cheese, my dad had one as a company car and his went.
