hi, this is my current 205. its a pretty much standard 1.6 with full magnex exhaust system and goodwood style 1.9 alloys. this is my 7th 205. i have met a few of you in the south west area last year when i had a blue mk2 mr2. i hope to come along to a few more meets and events this year.
future plans are to renew the suspension and brakes then do a gti6 conversion later in the year.
a couple of quick pics after a clean:

ok its time for a long over due update.
last summer i renewed and upgraded all of the suspension with: 306 gti6 bilstein front shocks with eibach springs and group n top mounts. 309 gti front arb, new wishbones, drop links, track rod ends. at the back i have fitted a fully reconditioned rear beam with a gti6 24mm arb and solid mounts with new gti6 shocks.
then i moved onto the interior. i have fitted full black leather seats from a 309 goodwood and late spec door cards. also a grey carpet and centre console.

the car pretty much stayed like that for the summer and i went to a few shows and meets and even did a small track day at haynes. then i had a plan to convert it to gti6 power so i went out and bought this:

a citroen xsara vts, the same as a 306 gti6 engine wise but with a 5 speed box which i wanted for the conversion anyway. 2 owners from new with full history and only 80k. i used it for a couple of months and did a track day at castle coombe and a day drag racing. i then got in touch with miles at pug racing who would do the conversion for me. took him down both cars and a couple weeks later i have a gti6 powered 205! i picked it up yesterday and have done 200 miles since, i love it and grin every time i drive it.

engine is standard apart from a lightweight flywheel and silicone hoses. i am using the vts gearbox and bigger brakes up front with mintex 1155 pads. future plans are to paint the inlet manifold and tidy the engine bay up a bit. i also have a auto bonnet with the bulge in it to be fitted when i find someone to paint it.
one last pic of me on haynes track last year. hoping to do a few more track days this year.

Very nice. Still really fancy a 205 gti, just seems to be getting harder and harder to find a decent'ish one for sensible money. Whenever I look at them it seems for what it costs for a good one you could have a 306 gti6, clio williams, or clio 172 / Cup. Hard to know if the 205 gti is the smae amount of car as those alternatives for the money.
about time i updated again. have been using the car lots over the last year. have done a ring trip and 4 trackdays and a few pistonheads runs.
purists look away, i have modded this pug how i want it and for what i use it for but tried to retain standardish looks.

i fitted a set of toyo R1R tyres as the crap yoko prada were total junk on the track. the toyos are great, they transformed the car.
i have tidied up the engine bay by fitting a polished inlet manifold and removed the resonator box and run the injector wires underneath, also fitted red cam covers.

then it went into the bodyshop to get the rust on the drivers sill cut out and a new piece fabricated and welded in and painted, also fitted an auto bonnet with louvers.
before

after

bonnet

then i fitted a very rare gti16 badge and new lights to the rear

i managed to put a hole in the rad when changing the mani doh! so fitted a new alloy rad

i also fitted a deep dish omp swade steering wheel as i was finding the old one hard to grip on trackdays but no pics of that. the latest addition is a rear half omp roll cage enabling me to keep the full interior.
this is for safety reasons as i have seen two cars roll on track now plus these old 205's arn't exactly made of much.
its going into the bodyshop next month to get the cage sprayed and to remove the tabs for the door bars and to get the mounts welded to the floor.

probably not going to do much more to it apart from let the bodyshop have it over the winter to tackle the rust on the inner wings and front panel. i will be going to lemans classic in it so keep an eye out.

I just didn't want a stripped out car like my last mi16. the diagonal bar is removable so can still get in the back if need be. Certain classes of Motorsport have to retain the interior (don't know why) and the omp cage lets you do this.
I have not noticed any difference in handling, if there is then the extra speed more than makes up for it. I have had various 205's in 8v and mi16 and I can't say I ever noticed any difference.

Lovely example. I'm hankering after one, myself.
As you have said, regarding keeping the rear seats in place with the cage, certainly from the MSA sprint regulations, if you want to enter your car in 'standard' road car class, then rear seats must be retained. Not doing so means entering in a modified class and potentially facing much stiffer competition. Such cages as this OMP allow this.

Awesome car, but I would say that because i've just converted my 1.6 gti to gti6 power! Ive chosen to keep the 1.6 box, but looking at changing this sometime. Would you recommend the VTS box?
Im local to castle combe - hoping to go there this year, might see you there!
I had a 1.6 box on my last two mi16's and whilst they are very good for excelleration they rev too high for cruising along the motorway/dual carriageway. The vts box is a good choice as 1st to 3rd are pretty much the same as a 1.6 but at 70-80 mph in 5th the engine is doing over 1k rpm less. I used to be able to hit the limiter in 5th on the mi's, I tried it once on the vts box on the autobahn and bottled out when it went off the clock!Im local to castle combe - hoping to go there this year, might see you there!
